hull new paint, anyone with spraying experience

I will be attempting to spray paint my hull this spring. Black hull with silver stripe. Any one with experience in two part spray painting of hulls - do you have any do and do-not's to watch out for. I was going to use the Interlux barrier coat first, BUT I have just been told by a paint contractor that the barrier coat is largely a matter of marketing hype. If the hull is older than four years and has had no blisters. A hull properly prepared and painted with a two part polyurethane is all the protection you will ever need. (UNLESS THERE IS HULL DAMAGE, like a gouge or deep scratch that is not repaired) The use a good quality two part paint eliminates 99.99 % of any problems. But here's the what????? part. He claims that he as a chemical engineer and a professional coating expert, the truth about blisters is that the blame really is both the resin manufacture, trying the sell cheaper resins that has been cut with solvents to thin for manufacturing speed and to max profits and the boat builder who did not properly squeegee the resins into the cloth to properly saturate the cloth and eliminate the air in the glass fibers, there by a wicking of any moisture from outside the hull or from inside would be the natural step. But "liabilities" you know, the insurance/lawyers claims prevent the truth from being clearly faced up to.

THIS not the same as buying a custom made boat or a boat that has been bastardized by ill informed boat hackler. you know the kind, they know everything, change everything with no knowledge of design or of purpose. but when you buy a class design you are buying a boat that has already been tested and proven they all sail the same, minus the tweaking we just love to do with sails and weight etc. and sometimes it is the way to get a great deal, right there on that moment with cash.

I am now a one boat man again, having just removed my Seaward 23 from the fleet. I have owned my 1993 M 15 for 4 years and have added nothing but an electric trolling motor. Now that I can devote all my attention to one boat I have the following questions. Although the 11 year old working jib and main appear ok, is it possible that new sails should be considered? What other sails should I consider, a genoa, an asymetric spinaker? I want to buy or trade for a Honda 2hp long shaft. Should I also go for an adjustable motor mount to raise the motor out of the water on starboard tac, or just remove the motor and put it forward in the cabin to keep the weight forward. Last question. I have a new MacGregor working jib, an almost new asymetrical spinaker from the Seaward 23, a 1991 8hp Honda motor, and a 2 hp 40 year old British Seagull to sell, or barter for the above wish list. Yep, out of North Augusta, SC. The lake I keep Miss T on when not on the road is Strom Thurmond (nee Clarks Hill) reservoir, which is the Savannah river damed up, about 20 miles up river from Augusta GA. I lived in Montana for 20 years as a student and then Wildlife Biologist.

Montana is not on the frontline of anything, except maybe severe winters and beautiful scenery, so in 1985 when I read an ad in the Small Boat Journal (a great magazine but sadly deceased) I figured it had long since been sold. I called anyway and amazingly I was the first respond to the ad. The owner (I can't remember his full name, but his first name was Paul) had written that he would deliver the boat.... which he did, rom the Oregon coast to Billings, MT, a little less than 1,000 miles. He drove over in November and the day that he arrived the high temp in Billings was 13 degrees. By the time he gave me a quick orientation about the boat we were both damn near frozen. Toby (the orginal MIss T) and I warmed him up with dinner and breakfast and thanked him even more warmly for delivering it. John Edwards
