Hi John, I have spent several winter vacations in the Keys and know the area you are speaking about. I think it would be a wonderful playground for a M17. Looking at the charts I have, you will be dealing with some very shallow areas. Do you have a kick-up rudder for Miss T? Weather will be getting warm then as well. I was normally on Cudjoe Key and vacationing in Feb or March to escape a bit of Minnesota chill. Go for it! Planning Spring Trip

I got the mid winter planning ich early and have been looking at charts and guides to the Florida Keys. It looks like a good cruise would be to launch at Key West and sail up the Hawk Channel to John Penenkamp State park on Key Largo. We would then take a bus or work out a shuttle to retrieve the truck and trailer. The trip would be about 100 nm and would be with the current. There are a lot of places to anchor and snorkle and some marinas on the way. The best winds and temps indicate that late April or early May would be a good time to go. I like those nav. lights in the hull. Maybe not as visible as on the pulpit, but very salty. I wouldn't mind putting a set on my boat if they were available somewhere. Larry Y. I'd like to know if anyone actually uses the porta potty. I've thought about building a galley unit where the potty goes. In my mind that's a more practical use of precious space on an M15. The Fox was on my short list. Their Comfy Chair seems like a nice feature. However I think you would have to be a contortionist to use the Porta-Potty. At some point in time I decided to leave the cushion and plywood cover for my Potty at home. They always seemed to be where I did not want them at the time. Lately I have been thinking about trying to find a cushion that would fit where the Potty does. If it is raining, I could move the Potty to the cockpit and plop the cushion down in its place. I lived in Montana where the temps got down to -20 and lower, and Miss T was parked on the driveway for the whole winter. I never took the compass off the boat and didn't ever have a problem with it. John Edwards

I have put "umbra limi" to bed for the winter. As an afterthought I am wondering if I should have pulled the compass from the hatch-board. It is a Saturn 140a bulkhead mount type. I cannot find the literature for the compass which would give me the temperature tolerances. I can expect to get to 10 below here in the midwest if it is a bad winter.
