Robbin, I have varnish on the hatch ribs (too much work in Arizona or Southern climes). But they are laminated white oak - really pretty - but lotsa work! For the handrails : I use real 100% Tung oil (hard to find - I get it at Woodworkers Source $22.00/qt) _http://www.woodworkerssource.net/_ (http://www.woodworkerssource.net/) - Old Masters # 90004 Sand wood - do not use high pressure spray (car wash) on teak to brighten it up, it removes the heart wood. Sand smooth,oil, let dry, I use 0000 Steel wool between coats maybe 5 or 6 coats, this lasts about 6 mos. in the Arizona sun. If you are farther North or cover the boat it should last a long time. Make sure the oil is 100% Tung oil - not Tung oil varnish or Tung oil finish. Big difference in durability. A quart should do a 15 or 17 for 5 years or so. I have replaced the railwood and hatch slide wood with "Starboard" UHDPE(?) or something like that. Best thing I ever did to the exterior of my boat- little bit of work with a router but not rocket surgery. No funky lookin' bolted on wood to sand and re-oil ALL the time - except those handrails. Rich, I sold Kokopelli about 10 or more years ago. I still have my Flicka in the water. I got a great deal on a M 15 and couldn't resist. I hope to use her on mountain lakes, perhaps in the Pacific Northwest, and as a "travel trailer." Bert, I'm looking to get the same outboard. I heard both long shaft and short shaft comments here. How is the short shaft working? I also have the original fixed mount. I just purchased and installed a 2007 2hp Honda short shaft on my M 15. I found that I can not kick it up out of the water because the housing hits the stern. I have the original fixed mount. Rick, I think your request to Steve P. to butt out is stupid. So, he's not the list moderator; so what? Do you wait for a cop to render assistance or to keep the peace? Or, do you step in and say, 'Can I help?', or 'Move on, folks.' I bought a Monty new back in '04, and don't have time to recite answers to seven questions for no one in particular. I checked references before I bought, and had a painless process. I recommend the same for any prospective new buyer. Steve's pissing contest with Bob should have remained offline between Steve and Bob. Poor taste for Steve to bring it into public (though a comment such as, 'I've been disappointed with Bob E. because...' would seem fine, helpful, and appropriate). There is nothing wrong with having a discussion online about the manufacturer of a product. It is a good and healthy practice. I am disappointed when I see or hear people say 'take it offline' or 'not my problem - lets discuss the next 'bit o' rigging'. If it was your boat missing the XYZ you would be looking for some help in an industry with little regulation, no dealer network to work with, and possiibly hundreds of miles (thousands) away from your location! How many of us research goods/services by running to the internet and looking at the lists of the products served? I for one do and many I know of use this as a candid and valuable resource. Take all ADVICE for what it is worth, but would you not like (read appreciate) being saved from a decision that could have been averted, modified or postponed by checking a list of Owners/Users??? I think we know what the answer is. If you were prevented/postponed from sending your hard earned money to the Willys Automobile Co. the week before they closed their doors for good you would agree, Montgomery Sailboats is an involved party in this list. How they are viewed by internet community is in large part up to them and how they 'act' on the list. The throttling, censure, or restriction of information is far too prevelant in this Society as it is, there is no room to add to keeping things from view. If Bob Eeg has issues with customers let those customers feel free to garner help or a friendly ear wherever they may be best served. I am NOT for taking this "offlist" although I did send an e-mail to one of the parties and said it was an embarrassing conversation and if it were me I would try to resolve it in a personal way. NO CENSURE, FREE the WRINKLE BOATS, M-BOATS LOVE SUNSHINE etc... M-Boat content - I LOVE my M-17 with the cut-out transom!! Scott The new set of vinyl cushions were paid for by me weeks ago; in addition to the the original set of cushions that are in your boat now. Those free replacement cushions are in the next 17 going to the Bay Area next friday. No charge. You are a person that is never happy. I have bent over backward (in the Grand Scheme of things) paying for and assuring the correct foam is in stock at the cushion maker; paid for a new set and all I get from you is petty little girl whining. You're going to have to wait a few more days and suffer with the already upgraded cushions you originally picked out. (that are in your boat) Boxing and shipping cushions by truck doesn't work. I'am not going to bend them and stuff them in a box; they are going by boat, nice and flat. We busy as can be; our backorders are practically caught up and we are building plenty of new boats. You assume much. Maybe you should........you know..... wait to talk to me in person.
