Looking at the map/satellite photo link that Bones posted, it occurred to me that this could really be an Eastcoast to Westcoast Monty event. Yeah, it's WAY up there, but about in the middle of the country East to West. Pretty cool opportunity to meet/sail with the folks that we chat with but never get a chance to sail with. I'm seriously thinking this could be a great trip. Dibbs on the couch at Chad's house!!!! Hey Bones, if we were to pull this off, where would be the place to launch? Are you familiar enough with the lake to suggest some locations to visit? Robbin, Howard, Bones, and Bill, Thanks for the help with the scupper hose information. I am going to crawl in the boat this afternoon and remove the cockpit hose. I will of course keep all up to date with the findings and results! HI Gang, I've been on this lake on a 50' rented houseboat with a bunch of my fishing buddies years ago. The channels and passages around islands have day markers and are easy to follow with a chart. But, once you get into the big water, it's really easy to lose bearings. This was in pre-GPS days. We had 3 compasses on the houseboat and they all read differently! At one point, we had to swallow our pride and ask some muskie fisherman where we were. Damn tourists. Another fine candidate in northern Minnesota which isn't quite as huge is Lake Vermillion. Another stunning beauty, not as far north, and not as remote. I'll do either. Bones

Dale and John, Thank You for your quick responses! Man - ya gotta love the internetz and groups like this to help you get thru the day. I will secure 4) all stainless hose clamps, A piece of hose long enuf to service galley drain and cockpit scupper drain. and replace these little devils. My boat is a late 1980 model - do you think they need to be replaced?? I suspect they are the OEM hoses. Okay just because I have nothing to do but crawl into the port cockpit locker head first on my back. Love that entry access contortionist act to get in there! Maybe I will remove my 1980 water tank finally - if I can borrow a sawzall- it woild be nice to have the space. New battery switch goes in tomorrow (handle/knob broke off old one) It is finally cool enough to work on the boat here in the desert - only the upper 90's for a high now. Very balmy for us lizard type desert dwellers. Thank You again for your help. Howard, You are spot on, good info. On my 1976 M17, I have the inspection port and yes, there is a loop in the cockpit drain hose. I believe my hose is the original and still quite solid. Bones in Mpls

Isn't that the craziest looking lake you ever saw? Instead of a lake with 14,582 islands they could just as well have called it the land with 14,582 lakes! Hello fellow Montogermy owners, I owned a Montgomery 15, #280, about 12 years ago and sold her. Those of you who have been owners a long time may remember my newsletter articles. I think they were on canvas work. I have a few quetions: 1. What model # head fits the 15? Mine came with one, but it doesn't fit in the "head pan." 2. My mast a bow in it which I hope was from being stored. It bows somewhat forward, not side to side. Have any of you encountered this problem? Dear Listers, I was speaking of the beautiful, massive Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota and thinking either a week cruise or participating in the annual "Lowisa" regatta would be a tremendous sailing experience. The lake has 65,000 miles of shoreline, 14,582 islands, is 90 miles long and 55 miles wide. Some of the best fishing in the world. Two older yellow hulled Monty's would have people scratching their eyes to see if they were seeing double! The Lowisa takes place first week of August, I think this year is the 43rd.
