Hi Larry, I've used members of SAMS a couple of times - once in the Seattle area and a second time in Florida. Both times were arranged, first over the internet and and then later by phone & Fax. What I did was Email a few in the respective area and ask if they had experience in the boat I was interested in and ask about survey costs and travel costs if any involved. Scott, thanks for the note. I see a Montgomery 15 in Kanas for sale, at $5000... I sent a note to this seller asking if ther were any marine surveyors in his area. There are none apparently. Any suggestions on checking this out with a objective person? What do think about hauling an M15 back to Sacramento with a 4 cylinder Camry Wagon? Now you know why I need the M15 and not an M17. The Seller in Oregon got offended when I politely asked if there was any room negotiation on the price. His ad reads " asking price $5995.00". To me when the word "asking price" is used I take that to mean there might be room for discussion of the final price. Jiffy reefing system

All right, I have been waiting for someone to ask and it hasn't happened so I guess I have to be the one. The M15 comes with a Jiffy Reefing system as a standard. But, since I received mine with no instructions, and the rigging not installed, I haven't a clue as to how this is supposed to be rigged. Also, from some of the recent postings, I am beginning to get a dim glimmer as to how it works. So the question which follows is does it remain in place when the main is dropped? How. can the main be removed from the boom if it is still rigged. Some pictures of it in place would sure be a big help. Since I learned to reef the old fashioned way, I have put reef ties into the main so I can get the job done, and did sail with the main reefed while in FL. But, I did the reef while still at the dock because I could see it was neeeded. As a single hander, it would not have been too easy to do if I had to do it while underway. Any help would be appreciated. Time for a cool change! Sandra(Seawitch #617)
