I used Marine Penetrol to restore the gel coat on Tullamore, and found it did a very nice job of brightening the toe-rail also. I reapply the penetrol about once a year and it keeps the boat looking good. It is available from West Marine. Larry Y. Hi Craig, My 2 HP 4 cycle Honda doesn't vibrate, runs totally reliably, and is the best motor I've ever owned. It is also very quiet, as behooves a proper sail boat motor. That 10 hour break-in period is probably the standard paragraph for any motor. That's just to keep the kids from giving it full throttle right out of the box. Since you will only be using half throttle anyway, that is break-in RPMs! Enjoy! Connie

There is a product available in the marine stores that softens old bedding compound. I wish I could remember what the name is. You just spray it on and wait while it works for you. Ask the local marine store or West Marine online. Sandy

Bill Riker M-15 #184 >> Bill, In theory, this sounds like a good idea. The problem as I see it is that the main is sewn from a series of more or less horizontal panels. I am not sure how you could extend the foot without adding what would amount to a vertical strip at either the luff or leach (I have not seen this done). It does beg the question as to how one could gain a few inches of boom height without loosing foot length. Perhaps leaving the foot alone, and taking the height out of the head would make more sense. The leach would have to be recut somewhat, and the head plate moved, but at least the foot length and reefing proportions would remain relatively undisturbed. removeing old bedding compound?

The bedding compound under the bow rail pads has deteriorated. I removed the bow rail and the SS pads cleaned up nicely with acetone. How should I remove the old compound from the deck? Any way to "brighten up" the aluminum toe-rail on older Ms without repainting or applying a chemical that might damage the anodizing? Painting is the last thing I'd want to do, since I'd rather have a dull toe-rail than the maintenance of paint.
