Plexi replacement for M17

Brian, I got a pair of replacement cut plexiglass pieces from Bob at Montgomery Boats for a reasonable price. He pointed out that I would have to drill the holes to fit my particular fastener pattern. They arrived with the contact paper still on them. I haven't installed them yet, so haven't decided how to seal them. My deadlights have no beauty trim, and are currently siliconed in. And in a couple of spots they leak (both are cracked, one is chipped at a fastener point). Does anyone have a recommendation for sealing the replacements? David (M17 #393 Cloud Girl)

Rick, I am referring to the 'old' model aluminum asymmetric cleat (1980 model for ref.). Sorry, I was not aware of a change in the cleats on the later models. Rick, If you are sailing alone, try taking the sheet once around the leeward winch and then up across the boat to the weather side winch and do the work of trimming and cleating at that winch - this is called cross sheeting and is used on light boats that require the crew to be on the weather rail due to ballast and the ability to trim from the weather rails The cleat that is on the 17 behind the winches is a marvelous little thing in that one full wrap usually secures the sheet no matter what size line is in use. (I use from 3/16 to 5/16 sheets) A friend of mine who currently sails a Melges 24, saw the cleat the other day and commented how nice they were - he remarked that they were a 'good design'. He is considering the purchase of either a Mariner or a M-17 as he is tired of the Melges 24 scene. Give it a try and see if it works for your style. New M 15 Owner Q: Retrofit boat with Stern Rail?

Has anyone successfully mounted the stern rail to an M15. I just bought a 2006 and it only has the bow one. I have a bad back and it would be nice to have this. I just got some great advice from many of you about which outboard to buy so I am hoping for some more good advice from some of you thanks in advance s

Deadlights

Hi Folks: A question for Jerry, or perhaps others who have done a deadlight replacement... Jerry, who was your supplier for M17 deadlights? My plexi needs replacing pretty badly. I've got the frame out, but I either need to find some new gasketing material from the manufacturer, or buy a new pair of replacement deadlights. I'd rather buy the gasket, if it can be done. 20+ years ago i sailed and rowed MANY miles in a minto. the minto (aka, rich passage minto and/or kent ranger minto) is about the same size and similar external look (different seating setups). a minto in good condition with NO sailing rigging will for for $1000-$1500 (reguardless of age). the sailing package adds another $500+. knowing jerry and his 'need for speed' i have no doubt the M10 is a great sailer ... and if a boat sails well it is likely to row well (the minto is a GREAT rowboat, tender, and sailer which is why it commands such a high price). there is a M10 near me here in kent, WA ... I would bet 'alot' that the new boats are heavier than the "old" boats from what I have seen. Just my observation and no science to back it up. Jerry built very good laminates, certainly not resin rich that I have ever seen on his boats (one reason to be 'heavy') - this is testament to his QC, as wrinkle boats must NOT be easy to lay-up! Just the thought gives me the willies, sliding cloth being chased up and down and across the molds on those strakes! I don't like ingesting/breathing additional nitrogen oxides. M-17 on a Trail-Rite trailer pulled by a 2003 Tacoma Dbl Cab 3.4L V6 auto 2WD - yes it is slow up hills but hauls grass on the flats. GO In a message dated 4/10/2009 11:17:52 A.M.
