new Montgomery sailing video

Hey gang, Dauntless is now sitting in her winter berth where we keep her each year. Finally, our AZ weather pattern has shifted to the normal fall/winter scenario with good North winds pushing through as frontal systems dig down from the Pacific Northwest. Usually we get just the wind, not the clouds or rain. This week has been a perfect example. Temps finally dropped into the double digits!! and the wind climbed into the double digits!!! SOOOOO....we threw off the dock lines and took Dauntless out for a romp. I broke 'Jo's camera when we were sailing at the Cruiser's Challenge in Monterey this year by flexing the screen on the back which broke it. So, there is no viewfinder on the camera now. BUT, that doesn't stop me! We had some great sailing I took some terrible video. Actually, considering there was no viewfinder at all, and that also include no menus to tell you what the camera is doing, what the settings are, etc... I thought it came out pretty good! It even impressed Jo who you will see laughing at me trying to figure out how to get the dang thing to work. Winds were forecasted to be 15 to 25 with gusts to 30. Don't think we ever made it near 30 as we never reefed the main. We were, however, able to get up over 7 knots boatspeed on a broad reach with a "glad bag sized" 36 square foot "Micro Jib" flying. So what was the windspeed......I think the wind was blowing "fun" miles per hour! :-) And that can't be disputed!!!! ;-) We had a good time. San Juans 2009

Hello Monty sailors, The sailing season is over here in the inland northwest. CornDog is winterized, the temperature was 19 degrees here this morning, and the time has come to start planning the much anticipated and already highly touted (mostly thanks to Sean) 2009 San Juan cruise. After taking this year off, the interest for next years cruise has been amazing, and I'm expecting we'll have a BIG turnout. Could, in fact, be the largest gathering of M23's ever, with 7 or 8 already expressing interest. Tentative plans call for a 2 week cruise, most likely launching in early to mid June. Exact dates are yet to be determined. Tidal currents and group preferences will be considered first. On previous trips, we've spent most of the first week in the San Juan Islands so that folks who can only join us for the first half of the cruise can then return to Anacortes as the rest of us head for the Gulf Islands in Canadian waters. The 2009 cruise will probably have a similar itinerary, but that will all be decided though the San Juan Group e-mail list. If you've ever dreamed of sailing one of the best cruising grounds anywhere, with a great group of friendly fun loving Montgomery sailors, don't miss this trip! Seeking Info Portland/Vancouver Sailing

Hello, I was just curious if any here on the list sail in the Portland/Vancouver area. I was hoping to learn somethings about the sailing season and the facilities in the area. I think Howard has a good point in discussing consolidation. Unfortunately we may not agree on how to consolidate. As far as a discussion goes, I would like to raise the following points: First, we tend to plow the same ground over and over. I have thought about starting a FAQ for the M-15 but just never got around to doing it. Reposting gems from Jerry, Connie and Bob would cover a lot of it. BTW - Jerry, Connie and Bob - think about writing a book. Second, most of us are mortal(excluding moi and my angelic trophy wife). Is there a succession plan for these web entities? I participate in another group that for one reason or another has lost the moderator, and no one else can join the group. I would hate to see something like that happen to us. Third, do we need to raise funds to support any on going operations? I noticed a while back after a google search that I was getting Montgomery hits from this site: http://www.mail-archive.com/montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com/info.html Someone has signed the list up to be archived at this web site. You can even search or view messages by thread or by date. There is also a RSS feed at: http://www.mail-archive.com/montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com/maillist.… The last week or so I have not even been reading my e-mails. I just peek at the RSS from time to time and click on what interests me. I expanded the site to 15 pages so now there is over 150 items listed. Even if you looked a few days ago, there is lots of new stuff. I am going to keep the sale exclusive to the MSOG folks for one more week, then it's local Craig's list to move out some larger items, then the online garage sale site will close, and it's EBAY. Thanks to some of you I have research and found most everything on E-Bay is now shipped Post Office - Parcel Post. UPS and the other shippers have doubled in price in the recent past and if you are not a corporate account, they hit hard. So, yes I'll look into the cost of Parcel Post as well as UPS. My advice, buy several items so shipping can be averaged over the lot. Better for you – better for me. You want reasonable shipping and I want the shed size to shrink!
