San Juan cruise

The 3rd annual San Juan cruise is kicking off this weekend, with 2 weeks of sailing the San Juan and Gulf Islands planned. We have 10 boats launching in Anacortes, WA on June 9th and 10th. There will be a group dinner at Sasso's Restaurant Sat. evening at 7:30. Any and all Montgomery sailors or kindred souls are welcome to join us there. Or come down to the docks at Cap Sante Boat Haven (D dock) to check out the full line of Monty's represented there. We'll have M15's, M17's, and M23's there, with models from 1976 to 2005. We'll be sailing out late Sunday morning, but you may get lucky enough to bum a day sail from someone anytime before that. Come join the party. Brian, The cruise officially began Saturday June 3 at noon and will continue as long as Saturday June 10. I do not know how many will stay all week. Some leave early or come late. Early June or late May seems to be the time frame, although there was some discussion about holding it in September. I went a couple of years ago and wish I could be there now, but circumstances were not favorable this time. It is interesting to see how others have outfitted their boats and learn tips from the group. Doug Kelch is the volunteer cruise organizer and he usually posts a message in the late winter or early spring. Shoot him an e-mail to get on the cruise mailing list. steve Steve R. Hello Glen, I've ordered parts from Montgomery in the past, and always called and spoke with Bob. He shipped out what I needed. The email route didn't work. Hi Glenn, I tried to comment on your blog. But my comment seemed to have been lost in cyberspace. So I don't know if your blog idea is quite ready for prime time yet. Of course, more than likely I just hit the wrong key. In any case, what I said was I think that your idea has some merit, but I wonder if you're trying to reinvent the wheel here. I too wish that we could have a more easily searchable archive, and that I didn't have to often cut and paste some of the posts here into my word processor because the messages don't come with line returns and run off the right side of my screen. There are several free web forum packages (my ISP offers two) that are easily searchable and keep each subject in a discrete heading. A couple that I access every day are: http://www.advrider.com/forums/ http://www.priusonline.com It's very easy to find exactly what you're looking for in these forums, and you don't spend a lot of time wading through stuff you have no interest in. And like I said, they're free. But I'm guessing that there's a sizable contingent of folks here who are old-school Internet types and like their digests emailed to them. So I'm not advocating for any change if the status quo is working for most of us. As for Bob Eeg. Well, good luck. I've been trying to get an estimate from him since April. He builds a great boat, but boy, he sure could use some help coordinating the business end of things. I guess I'm just going to have to keep pestering him. And to his credit, he recently sent me some replacement windows for my M15 free of charge. Finally, I live here in Ashland in southern Oregon, and if you ever want to see an M15 in the flesh and maybe spend some time out on Howard Prairie Lake this summer, well, you wouldn't have to twist my arm very hard. Glenn, Sailing a small boat is not as hard is it appears. I went 20 years between boats. It seemed daunting at first but a little tiller time will work wonders. Your wife will be miserable in the cabin of an M-15 under sail. You can sleep in an M-15. You can store stuff there. You can answer the call of nature in privacy, if not comfort. You can not sit up in the cabin. Going in and out under sail is tough with the standard mainsheet arrangement. Bob E. does participate in this group, as does Jerry M. Bob, like many small business owners, depends on a cell phone. Bob builds boats, and this is the time of year when people buy boats. So Bob may not have much time to answer you inquiries from a keyboard. I sympathize with your hearing loss as I have a minor loss myself, and grew up in a small town that was the home of the state school for the deaf. Perhaps you can use a keyboard and TTY relay service to call his cell phone. I really do not understand your AOL comment. Doug does not host the MSOG site through AOL. Keith, the owner of this mailing list, commented recently that AOL problems caused some people to be inadvertently unsubscribed by the list server. I believe Keith is an IT professional and Doug is a scientist who develops software and maintains a database used world wide by other scientists. There are lots of ways to communicate over the internet. I like e-mail, because I can save a message of interest for later reference. I download monthly archive files to my hard drive and use my favorite word processing software to search the messages. Yes, message content does stray from the subject line, but I believe that was true also of your first blog entry. There are other sailing groups that use several means of communications, like a list server, yahoo group and web forum. The comments from those users is that it is necessary to post messages in several places in order to reach everyone, and it is difficult to remember where to look for that important piece of information they saw last year.
