Thanks for all the QUICK response!! The sail maker is a company by the name of "Western Sailcraft" out of Jordan Minnesota. The sail was a surprise gift from my wife. So She asked some sailing friends for help and I don't think they knew that Montgomery boats sold them. But still a great gift!! I might have said the wrong term before about the fold. It is not a stress fold as in tension. It's as though you drew a line from the front of the batten pockets straight down the sail. The front part of the sail starts to form the foil then the back of the sail ( after the line I just mentioned) is as flat as can be, unless the wind comes up then she takes shape. So it seems as though the battens are to stiff. Mark I have to tell you that is a Great Shot of your sail, you should post it!! Briant M-17 Another Road

Updates on Havasu Montgomerys

Hey gang, Put a couple of updates on the www.havasumontgomerys.funtigo.com showing Dauntless' progress. Look for the "update 6-21-06" banners if you are interested. Ballast replacement is complete and barrier coat is going on. Is that a light I see way down there??? I can't wait to hear about the San Juan Cruise and see those guys pictures when they get back next week. Sure wish we could've made it. Guess i just work too slow! Or maybe it's that I enjoy 118 degrees .................................................... Not. :-) Be good Sean

M15 tiller

There's a couple photos on the MSOG photo site which demonstrates the benefit of having a 1' longer tiller on the M15. Go to M15 photos and click on Really. A couple of the pictures show the skipper sailing to weather using a forespar tiller extension on a custom made tiller by Royce which is 1' foot longer than the stock tiller. If you have already permanently deleted them, I guess I could dig through my deleted files and find at least some of the recommendations. Fishfinder Installation

Thanks Bill and Howard, I do have the boat shaped transducer, probably much like Howard's. It could be the silicone I used (clear), not as rubbery as the white stuff that I think Howard used. But after the silicone (sporadic reception) and silly putty (no reception) the puck alone in the water only seemed to work about half the time. I called Garmin Technical Support yesterday who said it sounded like a main unit/cable/transducer problem that must be checked out before they would know for sure what it is. After going around a few times about not wanting to undo my four hours of cable installation, the fellow agreed that they could determine the problem by just checking the main unit. If the unit is bad, they will replace it. If the unit is good, they'll replace the cable/transducer. Thanks for the help guys. Rick Langer M15 #337 Bluebird

Sail Battens

I'm trying to find out if the battens on the M-17 should be tapered. I find that unless I'm in a wind of 17 to 20 mph the sail tends to fold down the middle ( vertically ). This sail is about one year old and I'm am using the battens from the previous sail. I have contacted the sail maker. He thinks that the tapered battens will fix this. So I thought I'd ask the M-17 Experts if any of you have any ideas? Just to make sure it's not my sail trim. I have adjusted vang, outhaul, and sheet to no avail. Thanks Briant M-17 Another Road

Sail Battens

Briant, Just a thought. If the verticle wrinkles are in the forward half of the sail and greater towards the luff you might try getting them out by easing the halyard tension slightly. Verticle wrinkles along the luff often indicate too much halyard tension. You probably already thought of that and tried it but I thought I'd throw it out there. Sean

Everyone, I have a four-to-one boomvang for my refurbished 1981 Monty. What are the measurements for placement? Can I use an eye with four ss rivets on the boom? I have a large loop for the mast end. Does the mast end go to the mast base at the tabernacle? ---Thanks in advance everyone........----L. hull # 189.

Jeff: I wouldn't worry.I've anchored Sweet Dream a number of times with her 15# hightensile Danforth and 11 # claw fore and aft using 5 ft of 1/4" chain on each. A 15 has such a small drag it should neverbe a problem. Just give yourself enough scope. On the recent TSBB BEER cruise, I would motor into the beach, dropping the danforth off the stern, stop in about 3 ft of water, then get out and wade to the beach with the claw. After setting the claw, I would turn the boat bow out in about 3 ft of water with a 1 ft tide range. Don
