Norm, I am glad you have been out. I am still in dry (driveway) dock. Too many projects not enough hands. I hope I don't have a shortened mast, have not set up rigging (I bought new standing rigging) to see if the mains'l is a match. If I don't use this little Monty I will put in a glass case filled with Argon gas and just stare at it, Hardy Har. I'm in beginning navigation class. Interesting stuff. I took every thing apart including the rudder assembly. It was then that I found out I did not have a stock rudder assembly on my M15. One of the past owner did not like the raising feature so he made his own rudder assembly. I also wondered how the pictures of M15s on the Monty site showed people sitting upright in the cockpit while sailing. Yet, I had to duck down most of the time. I sailed like this for about three months. As part of my total refurb, I bought a new main sail to Monty specs. When I hanked on the new loose footed main at the dock, I raised it to the top of mast and found that the foot of the sail was still on the cabin top!!!!! $%*@! The sail shop gave me the wrong size sail!!! After checking every thing out, I found the past owner cut several feet off of the mast. After getting a new mast, I can sail better and sit up in the cockpit. I've had my first sail boat for 14 months now. I was so naive to sailing it's amazing that I did not try to sail backwards. My best story however is after reading the Monty list and hearing about the rudder being raised on M15s, I could not raise mine. No matter what I did, the rudder would not raise up once one on the stern. I sent an e-mail to Bob asking about this. He said to just "pump" the tiller and the rudder would come up. Try a nitrogen purge. Rent a 300 cu ft nitrogen cylinder, blow the n2 into one hole and out another until its dry. Stop after a while, plug the holes with putty wait a few days, then purge again. As you said FE - O2 = FE. Cant hurt Don

I have enjoyed all the posts about boat names. Since we haven't named #83 yet it got me thinkin', (which in an of itself is kinda scary) If I don't stop grinding new holes and start patching old ones pretty soon, we'll have to call her "Swiss Cheese"!............ Problem is I'm Irish. hahaha .......maybe "Holey Cow"? Some new updates on www.havasumontgomerys.funtigo.com if your looking for a few chuckles. I've applied to be next years poster child for the "make sure you hire a professional marine sureyor" campaign. :-) Sean

Back in the mid-80's, when my Monty was pretty new, we were sailing out of the Oakland Estuary over to Angel Island and found ourselves on a collision course with an Islander 36. I prudently footed off and passed behind him, and we got a good look at the name on his transom. It was Never Again IV. Another name I've remembered was on a Venture 21 I saw in the Santa Cruz marina - Hot Ruddered Bum. Brave man to buy a boat then learn to sail. But never mind, those of us who have experience sailing on other prople's boats, have a whole new world of learning when its your own! My first time trying to set up and rig my Monty, I lived on a hill, so I drove out of the driveway to the street where it was flat. Climbed aboard, and after successfully getting the mast raised, called Bob Eeg on the cell and he very kindly talked me through the rigging. Then, I derigged the whole thing, drove to a large vacant parking area and practiced backing the rig. Since as my daughter says backing up that driveway between two ancient oak trees was like threading a needle. Welcme to the list and I think "Foxy Lady" is a great name. Time for a cool change!
