Thanks for the input on the Ospho. I agree that it would probably be a band-aid not a cure. I'm waiting on some pics from Theo of how a similar problem with his keel was remedied by removing the steel and replacing with it with lead, and Jerry is sending me a diagram of how the inside of the keel is laid out. I'll scan all the stuff and put it on the website when I get it in case anyone wants it for reference. I better go and start making friends with the local tire shop(s). 1200 lbs is a lot of lead!!! I've used Ospho a good bit in my shop, but not on my boat much. It's basically phoshoric acid, which can accomplish the same thing as Ospho if you can find it for sale by the gallon. If you could get your ballast bone-dry, it might work, but it should probably be regarded as a patch, not a fix. It won't reduce the volume of the existing rust. If you're planning on flooding the ballast with Ospho and leaving it wet, then you might get accelerated blistering. Of course, it's been wet for all these years, so that's probably accelerated blistering too. Other than that, it shouldn't hurt fiberglass. Digging it out and replacing with lead is your best fix, but I understand that's a LOT of work... how much was Bob asking for new 17s, again? Rick, I probably was looking at the M17 you bought and realized correctly I could never pull an M-17 with my little Toyota Camry. Gale Stockdale had two at one time. I did not know what I was looking at but I liked to lapstrake style without knowing why. Stockdale Marine closed up shop about 3 years ago. Gale and Ryan were the owners. I bought a mixed bag of resin and hardware parts at really cheap prices, I just can't resist stainless steel anything. Bought a bunch of slightly banged up mast sections. Had an idea of a project which I dropped when I found an M-15 on the internet down by Ridgecrest near Andrews AF Base in the Mojave dessert. Very hot, very dry down there. Bought the boat, came back to Sacramento the next day, never regretted it. I just wish the owner had taken better care of the trailer, the tires, and the CB. The trailer was shameful. Did some welding and a complete prime and repaint after a professional sandblasting. Thanks for the note. Rick, I have M-15 hull # 189 built in 1981 by Jerry M. I am located in Sacramento, CA. How do I get in touch with your gel coat repair person? I want to find out what he would charge for some area repairs. You're right about the lack of crazing, no crazing on mine also. HERE, HERE, OLD MAN!..... Rebuilding these babies aint for the weak hearted. Just blew out the boom on old M23 #017, which had been seriously bent by the previous owner. Had it 98% strait very easily. However, never being happy with pretty damn good, I went for that last 2%. Which took about 5000% more force and BOOM....Get it "boom?"... I knew it was stupid, my wife certainly won't let me forget it was stupid and God knows my rebuilding budget won't let me for get it. But, oh well, if Sean can keep swinging so can I...by golly! Anyway anybody out there know of a suitable 112" extrusion that I can get, so as to reuse the hardware? If I have to I can probably/hopefully get it through rig-rite on the East coast. Any one know of a mast "superstore" on the West coast? Also to those I e-mailed trying to find out if my mast was original, the dilemma is over thanks to Sean and his kindness in sending pictures to me. It is original. Oh and old #017 is finally being worked on again by the very nice but overbooked boatworks. I'll talk to ya all later. Tx Rick

The MSDS ttp://msds.ogden.disa.mil/msds/owa/web_msds.display?imsdsnr=198316 states fiberglas is a suitable storage container so that would suggest it would be safe to use with fiberglas. Bobbie
