Hi Rachel, The "Martini Yardstick" came from a friend of mine. His question to himself, as to whether he should buy something or not was based on, "How many Martinis does it cost?" If it was five Martinis or fewer, go for it. Five to ten Martinis, and then he would first have to contemplate his navel, and study the tea leaves in the bottom of his cup prior to making a decision. Iced lattes or Cherry Garcia frozen yogurt are also very good yardsticks. However, is there a conversion scale: Cherry Garcia frozen yogurt to Martinis? On Google maybe? Connie

HI Gary, I use a group 24 (C+D 12-270, 75ah) for batt 1 and a small 17ah for batt 2 aboard the M23. I have on board charging and shore power so solar is not required. For the M17, I have been using a 31ah and a 7ah. AN AGM group 24 will supply lots of DC for a long time. However, a solar panel of moderate size will barely float charge it. You will also need a regulator-discharge blocking module inbetween the panel and the battery. I found one for Theo at Northern Tool, part # 336606-2601. They also have solar panels. www.northerntool.com. I would recommend a small on board regulated charger to use when shore power is available. When is your new M17 arriving? I'll bet you're excited! Hi Tod, Picky, picky, picky! A tool box for probably under $10, and you are worried about the quality of the hardware? If it is just plated steel, and rusts out after 10 years, then the tool box has cost you $1.00 per year for operational costs. After five years of use mine shows no rust spots at all. Do you leave it out in the cockpit overnight? Martinis cost $5 and up these days, so the tool box depreciation represents 1/5th of a Martini per year in cost. An acceptable price to pay for excellent utility. Connie

Hi Rachel, You don't want a fishing tackle box, or the boxes with the parts containers in the lids. Mine is a 19 inch long - el cheapo - from KMart - that has a removable tray in the inside. The tray is discarded. You want to use the space in the lid for things like flat plates and a cutting board, while the pots / pans / cups / wine glasses and utensils fit in the bottom. You also have to build a support for the lid when it's in the open position, so that it doesn't just hang down. The aim is to make use of every cubic inch of the volume that you have. The tool box advantage is it has a handle so is easy to carry. It closes and is locked: no dust or dirt during winter lay ups. It stows easily in a car and can be carried to a picnic table with one hand, while the other carries the cooler. Don't forget table cloths and napkins; as well as a sample bottle of detergent, which should last you for a week or two. Oh, and a dish towel too! Connie

A bar sink works quite well, fittings and pump/spigot available thru west marine or fishery supply. Flexible holding tank which is nice because it requires no vent purchased thru fishery supply. This is 26 gallons, not necessary to fill it all the way unless you need to. I anchored the four corners of the tank using fiberglass roving and epoxy with pvc pipe nipples, tying bungies in the four corners. The cabinet parts are mahogany plywood and hardwood caps. The counter tops and back splash are corian which is a dupont solid surface counter top product which would be quite expensive to purchase in bulk, however by contacting a dealer who installs counter tops, you can usually purchase sink cut outs for 20 or 30 dollars, its workable with carbide table saw blades, jig saw blades and carbide router bits. Water tank is filled thru a deck fill spout purchased from fishery supply and glues very well with 5200.. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions.
