Montgomery 15 for sale in Louisiana My boat is fairly plain but includes potty, stern folding ladder, battery with solar charger, sail covers for main and jib, long shaft 4.5 hp motor (an old one but should??? be ok.) Main and 110? jib plus a light weight jib of the same size.. Trailer needs de-rusting and painting but seems roadworthy. No title or license on trailer. $3750. Spreader Brackets

Has anyone taken the steps to fix the spreaders to the mast as opposed to the hinged brackets supplied from the factory (1977 vintage)? Is this a good or bad idea? If good, what is a good source for the hardware? Steve Shenkel M17 Arizona

Reccomended by Web2Mail ----------------------------------------------------------- Yes, John Harris did something similar, but the galley he made (fiberglass and plywood) fit in place of either of the underberth access covers on his/my M-15. It held a propane burner on the galley surface with the bottle hanging underneath, had an opening for the valve, a small cutting board, and slots cut in the plywood for storing plates, utensils, etc. Looks very nice, and I have a file somewhere with photos and text I created for, but which never made it on, the MSOG site. Unfortunately, when in place you lose the berth, and have to do something with the berth cushion (like leave it home), so it appears only practical for single-handing. It's too tall to turn upside-down and store within the berth (and stuff would fall out anyway), which I think would be ideal. You'd still have to do something with the berth cushion when you set up the galley, though. If you're reading, John, correct anything I've got wrong, as I've never actually used the galley or sailed with it in pla ce. Ask John about it when you see him at the wooden boat show (whoever that was going), and I'll e-mail the file to anyone wanting it if you'll e-mail me offline at tynerjr(a)gmpexpress.net. I'm a backpacker, so I appreciate Connie's galley tool box, but I'm going down the slide-in galley road because for my purposes the port berth is too short to be useful for sleeping, but super as a seat/galley combo. I like the idea of being able to move the whole shooting match outside and bridge the cockpit seats Todd (I think that's the idea from the illustration...), move it ashore for beach camping, or even leave it home during a day sail. #496 has an abbreviated port quarter berth, which is what I'm guessing John B started out with. The idea I'm toying with is a short galley that occupies half the berth and slides aft when not in use. Hi Craig, In regards to the galley, swing stoves are available thru West Marine or fishery supply in Seattle. A bar sink works quite well, fittings and pump/spigot available thru west marine or fishery supply. Flexible holding tank which is nice because it requires no vent purchased thru fishery supply. This is 26 gallons, not necessary to fill it all the way unless you need to. I anchored the four corners of the tank using fiberglass roving and epoxy with pvc pipe nipples, tying bungies in the four corners. The cabinet parts are mahogany plywood and hardwood caps. The counter tops and back splash are corian which is a dupont solid surface counter top product which would be quite expensive to purchase in bulk, however by contacting a dealer who installs counter tops, you can usually purchase sink cut outs for 20 or 30 dollars, its workable with carbide table saw blades, jig saw blades and carbide router bits. Water tank is filled thru a deck fill spout purchased from fishery supply and glues very well with 5200.. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions. Thanks John Bodine

Howard, That idea is both clever and cost effective. I found one web site that said by purchasing individual cells you could save roughly half the cost of a solar panel. Of course, they sold the individual cells. A quick check of the prices at West Marine confirmed the claim. steve Steve R. M-15 #119 Lexington, KY ************************************************ Here is a wild idea for a solar setup. I got the idea after seeing the solar cars the college kids build. Essentially, the idea is to turn the hatch cover into a solar collector. You buy the cells and glue them to the hatch cover. It takes a certain number of cells of a certain size to get the charging voltage where you want it to be. They are then covered by Lexan so they don't get damaged. Out of the way and always on.
