They supply everything you need for sail building - they supply you with a complete sail building kit; - sail maintenance and sail repair, as well as tools, hardware and accessories. Sail repairs

Hi everyone, I have been stumped trying to find the answer to this question. It seems simple enough. I must not be looking in the right places. Maybe one of you old salts out there knows. What kind of adhesive should be used on sail material? The sail numbers are peeling off my mainsail. It's an old sail, should be replaced, but I want to get one more summer out of it while I try out other sail setups and decide how I want a new one built. Any suggestions? Thanks, Larry

Hi Bob, You're absolutely correct on that one. The fun is that you keep learning something new with each project you undertake. First you get the idea................. Then you do research on how best to solve your problem, and after a lot of head scratching - the more the better - and navel contemplating, - you are ready to, Summon up your courage and drill that hole; or fix that craze crack; or add a cleat; or paint the hull. Just remember that once you learn carpentry; fiberglass work; varnishing; painting; sail repair; doing rigging work; outboard maintenance; each successive job become easier to undertake because you have gained experience and self confidence. To truly be a sailor means being totally independent. You can rely on your knowledge and capabilities to be master of your fate once you are out on the water. It's immensely satisfying to be the total master of your floating universe. Connie

Good point Tod, That is why I said you need to contemplate your navel.............. There certainly are jobs, that are so far outside your capability - skill and tools - that they should be left to the pros; but I think you do yourself an injustice when you think the pros do a better job than you can. Just remember they are working on a time and material basis, and you the owner, are not interested in paying astronomic charges even for superlative work. That is exactly where you have a major advantage. You know how you want the work to look; you aren't charging labor by the hour to yourself, so you can spend as long as it please you to get the job done. If it takes you twice as long to do the job as it takes the pro, does it really matter? ........... and No, I don't make my own metal fittings, though I have made wooden cleats and fittings for my Car Topper. ......... and I don't do my own taxes either! ......... but I bet if you had practiced playing the piano it might not sound exactly like Van Cliburn, but you could probably play some mean Boogie-Woogie, or sing along songs.
