Hi Bill, No batteries with a fuel cell. The fuel cell generates the electricity that goes directly to the drive motors. United Aircraft has built all the fuel cells for the NASA space program. They are the power sources for the Space Shuttle. I was involved in a fuel cell program with the German Navy for submarines. .......but no batteries. The fuel cells provided all the electricity the sub needed for propulsion, and hotel power. United's fuel cell power plants are suppling peak power generation for Con Edison in New York City, and are emergency power generators for many hospitals and other power critical operations. Buses become a prime user because buses can be maintained at a central location; and refueled at that location. These tend to be pure hydrogen powered machines. Connie

I looked up Fuel Cells on Google and found this one with pricing:http://www.greenmotorsport.com/article_default_view.fcm?articleid=3… It's a bit pricey at $6,100.00. Most of the other Google links showed what looks like the same unit but without a price. Norm M15 #172

I fly with an Eagle handheld. Moving maps are busy to read on this size screen...sectionals more so than marine charts. For flying or boating, I normally use a nav screen with key aids...ground speed, course, heading, track, velocity made good, eta, time in route, etc. Bill P.

M15 3 part outhaul

Some one commented on the "powerful" three part outhaul being overkill for the M15 in my boom photographs. If the 3:1 ration was there for power I might agree that it is more than adequate for an M15 but it is three to one for fine tuning the adjustment. It functions like a vernier. If you want a 1 inch adjustment you have to pull in 3 inchs of line. If you want a 1/3 inch adjustment you have to pull in 1 inch. I have seen two part tackles used on Jib sheets for small boats as well. These are for fine tuning jib shape as the last 2 inchs of jib trim need to be very precise for the prevailing conditions to optimize windward jib shape. I haven't gone that far yet but If I can't keep up with Bill at next years CBC or Maine cruise I will have to come up with something new :-) Or at least work on a new excuse :-) Thanks Doug "Seas the Day" __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? M15 reefing...Bill Riker

Bill My M15 came with two sets of jiffy reefing points. I had Jerry have the second set added before he delivered the boat to me. It looks like your reefing system is as clean as they get. Can you please give me a list of what I need to buy, with the best size and length to buy, so I can switch my reefing system to make it like yours. I'm not sure I understand why you don't have to lash the main sail down after putting in a reef. Is there any chance of you sending me some photos? Picked Up New M-15 Today

I picked up my new M-15, "Bella," hull number 628, this afternoon. She's a beauty: dark blue hull, white topside, white sails; stainless steel cleats and portlights; solid yellow fabric cabin cushions. Bob did a beautiful job on the boat, and got all the details that I ordered -- hull number, top batten, and loose foot on the main, cam cleats instead of clam cleats throughout, etc. -- right. I was very happy with the construction process throughout: Bob e-mailed me photos daily showing progress, and went the extra mile by standing in line for me at the Department of Motor Vehicles to register the boat. And, to top it off, Bob had "Bella" ready five days early. My wife, kids, and I look forward to cruising Mission Bay and offshore and to learning how to make "Bella" run as fast as she can. I'll take some photos next week, and will pass them to Bill L. for posting on the MSOG website. Question -- where's the best place (i.e., cheapest) in San Diego or Orange County to pick up a Honda 2 HP outboard motor? See you on the water! John L. Gonzalez La Jolla, CA

I saw an ad for a 12 V portable fuel cell for a small boat, about the size of a briefcase. Had a 2.5 (?) gallon tank of liquid methanol for fuel that connected to the unit by a small hose. I forgot the capacity but it would output a number of amps and would provide the power for a several weeks trip in an M-15 or M17 or for a camping trip. You could store extra fuel forward and run the unit in the cabin. The ad didn't say what the cost was. Don
