I put the first coat of varnish on the transom of my wee yawl this morning. So far, so good. She's not a Monty, but a very pretty little boat anyway. If anyone would like a picture, let me know. I belong to the wooden boat forum, and any mention of fiberglass get a good dose of derision. They are a smart group of folks, but they really are clueless when it comes to a fine vessel like the 15 & 17 (there's a bigger one too?? A 23?). I hope I don't make anyone here mad by being off topic...

Hi, Randy, Glad that you enjoyed my humble writing on the three-day trip to Catalina. We had a total of four(4) inflatables put in but only two remained in service. The other two were pulled out by their owner due to their deficiency. Captain Howie's Sea Hawk III and my Stearns Inflatable Kayak remained in service for the entire stay in Catalina. The Stearns kayak tracks pretty good with decent speed, enev under windy condition, and is very hard to tip over. It stores in a carry bag which, while under way, was kept in the cabin near the bow to counter balance the outboard. I was able to inflate it in the cockpit by placing it abeam with two paddles underneath for initial support. The one I have is a two-seater kayak so that my wife can also enjoy it. When paddle solo, the front seat service as additional storage. It might be a little pricy, but it is worth every penny. When I bought my 2003 Honda 2hp, the dealer specifically mentioned to be certain to drain the carbureator. There is a small slot head screw under the cowl and about 3 tablespoons of fuel drips/drains out. Of course he added the disclamer to make sure and have a handy container so as not to spill fuel at the ramp parking lot. He also added the most common problem was seals of the carb softening and leaking due to the new fuel additives (maybe only in CA) that are being put into pump gas. I've never experienced a leak with vent closed, carb drained and resting on the proper side. Bill

Hi Sandra, I have absolutely no gasoline leakage when transporting the HONDA outboard, lying on a cushion in the cabin of the M15, but............... I close the air breather on the fuel cap so it can't leak out there; ...........and I shut off the fuel to the carburetor so it can't leak there either. If you shut off both the air vent on the gas cap (and be sure to open it when you want to run the engine or it will never start......or run..........) and the gas shutoff to the carburetor your problems should be solved. Needless to say if it can be done wrong, I've done it wrong. Even with the picture in the manual, which I carefully read before transporting the motor the first time, I did lay the motor on the wrong side. This was last year and so I haven't done it again. What happens is that gas will leak out, and so will all the oil and it gets all over the surface of whatever the motor is lying on. The good thing was that I had it lying on a disposable wrapper, thus saving the truck bed. That wasn't the issue on this trip, just overfilling the oil reservoir and being unable to see the level in the little window. Now, I bought one of those stands so that it sits on the stand in the garage when not in use on the boat. Makes transporting to and from the truck much easier. Time for a cool change!
