Motor Locks for 2HP Honda

Does anyone have or use a motor lock for their 2 HP Honda. It would be so easy to remove and carry this motor! I just received the latest issue of Practical Sailor and they have a review of motor locks and recommend the Islander Outboard Motor Lock. Their web site is www.islandmarineproducts.com but they don't give dimensions. So I thought that I would ask what others on this BB have used with their 2 HP Honda's. Thanks, Peter Peanut M15

Hi all, I'm glad someone has asked the question about the amount of tension one should have on the shrouds of the M15. On the two occasions where I took my M15 down to Tampa Bay, I have been told by other, "more experienced" sailors that the rig was too loose. When the side stay snapped and I lost the mast last Nov. I was told that it could have been because the shroud was too loose and on tacking in a brisk wind, created a snapping effect when the sail moved over and the mast naturally put tension on the stay. When I re-rigged the boat this spring, I tensioned the side stays as tight as possible with the stay adjusters supplied. So, all info is gratefully received. Time for a cool change! SCA Cruiser Challenge

As Bill said in an earlier post, we had a great time at the SCA CC in Monterey, CA. The weather was great and the winds ok. The Potter people are great hosts and open and friendly. They had lots of sponsor gifts and handed out trophys to everyone. We were initially awarded 4th place overall, but when they corrected for our 'transgressions', we dropped to 7th. We were having such a good time it did not matter! I sailed the next morning and easily found all the race markers. During the race, there were so many boats on the bay it was hard to find them. I even won a $100 gift ceretificate from IdaSailor Marine. They have lots of goodies that you can check out at idasailor.com. I am thinking about ordering a hdpe rudder blank from them and making a new rudder. My question for Jerry and Bob is: has the rudder shape changed from 1982 and would they recommend any dimensional changes (length, width, foil shape). About all I know about rudders is that the leading and trailing edges should not be sharp. Also, are there any other boat rudders that might work on the m15? Any assistance would be appreciated. Side Stay Adjustments

Anyone care to chime in about tuning M-15 side stays? When on tack, the loaded stay of course is tight. Question is... How loose might the unloaded stay be? I've been on some boats where there is very little play and on others, where the stay is just flopping about. The concern to me is... without the mast compression post, should the stays be set at the rated 10% of breaking strength of should they be looser? Thanks, Bill

For those interested: I found the following posts on the Potter Forum and thought I’d pass it along to those who do not visit their Trailer Sailor Site… It’s just a little less than a year until the CC-7 happens again in Monterey, CA. Be nice to see at least one M-17 in next years race. Question: Anyone know who won the Cruiser Challenge? Answer: Posted By: Ceramicist: Probably not one of those 17' molded fake plank boats. Because none entered, thank goodness. all that winning was getting old. time to let a potter have a shot, ya big speedies! Now if we can get the 15 foot molded fake plank boats outa there maybe we can go back to having trophies for only the people who actually came in at the head of the pack. (All in fun) Re: Cruiser Challenge Results - Abridged and unofficial Posted By: Dave Kautz, P-15 #1632, SF Bay The big boats, of which there were only two, was won by Dan Rickert in his graceful Victory 21. He finished the course each time in 35 minutes, compared to the 90 minutes or so it took us to finish in a Potter 15. One could argue that the Victory 21 is not really a cruiser (It looks like a scaled down 12 metre raceboat) but Dan is a great guy and all he got for winning was the frustration of having to sit around and wait for the rest of us get back! Winning the medium size category was the magician himself, Jerry Barrilleaux. As pointed out in the post above, no Monty 17s were entered this year but it was by no means an all Potter 19 fleet - I saw a Com-Pac 19, a Capri 18, Dick Herman's Com-Pac Sun Cat, a Siren 17 and there may have been others. The Montys had their way in the small boat category, however. Mike Trueman was back in the #1 spot again with an immaculately prepared boat and a "no-mistakes" race strategy. Don Person was the top P-15, finishing in the middle of the Monty fleet as did Mike Higgins in the beautiful homebuilt catboat "Jean Alden". It was a BEAUTIFUL day. The forecast winds to 20 kts. never materialized, the wind seldom breaking 10 and occasionally dipping to negligible. The dinner and festivities at the Monterey Yacht club were well attended and lot's of fun. There were plaques for just about everybody and a number of chandleries and boat manufacturers were very generous with prizes so almost everyone went home a winner. It was a great time and a big round of thanks goes to all the organizers and volunteers who made it run so smoothly that all the rest of us had no choice but to have a great time!! ?
