M15 harness and tether questions

All of this talk about safety has got me to thinking about using a harness and tether on my M15, since I sail alone a lot of the time. It appears that the tethers I've looked at are around six feet long. I'm thinking that the attachment point should be on the stern,so that in the event that one did go overboard one could end up behind the boat and use the stern ladder to get back in. My initial thought was on the teak strip that the cb pennant comes through...but, with only six feet of tether, one would end up being dragged along the side of the boat, and trying to board over the side , most likely in rough weather. I haven't tried boarding over the side by myself, as I doubt I'd make it!! The first thing I did when I got my boat was to install a transom mounted ladder - it does work! What are people's thoughts? Now that Bob has entered his words and it looks like this may be a go, I am in for at least two. Depending on what styles are settled on, I would go for both the short sleeve regular T and the long sleeve T's. I love the idea of the 15 on the front and the 17 on the back. Time for a cool change! hi Steve, The Teflon tape is from Hyde Company product number 21-6A, its a 6 mil tape with acrylic adhesive, mine cost about $3. Note: be sure that the surface is completely clean. Then I put a closed cell rubber 0.5 inch wide and 0.375 inch thick with adhesive back on the back side of the aft sliding hatch so it had something to go thumb on, instead of going so far it would hit the mast step. After checking the different types available I found the same rubberized product at Home depot at better that half of the marine store price. This makes for a smooth solid feel. I am still looking for a few things.. One is a flexible solar that if memory serves me here was only 24 by 20. It was NOT (engineer on French registered boat) according to the owners the standard "terrestrial type" made with silicone but made with Germanium (spelling) and had better than 2 and 1/2 time the out put. Although that alone makes it sound as if I might need congress to loan me the money for them. If you see this let me know. At the moment I am using a 48 watt unit that fits across the hatch and I it works fantastic, never run low, and I have the radio on all the time, a small home made solid state cooler and an anchor light all night but it is clumsy looking and bulky to handle. I just figured out how to put these photo's on the web so I can now share them. MC

At the moment I do have the bow pulpit off as I am re-bedding and putting larger back up plates. I have written to Mike Erg on a stern railing for the M-17 . It does not have to very high, I think only 18 inches. Just enough to grab on to or to make a nice little wind break. This is the smallest sail boat I have owned. I do like its design. I wish I could have talked to the designed before he died . Like getting access to under the cockpit floor. It is hard to imagine trying to make this kind of boat for so little amount of money. The system they have to put these little boats together must be an example of efficiency. MC

Trailer one wheel or two per side

Hi Wayne, I have never liked the idea of a two wheel trailer with keel boat, seems like putting the weight too high. But that's what came with the boat. Four small tires seem like better way to keep the weight low MC

1981 M15 for sale

I will be posting my M15 on ebay later this week, and wanted to give the list a heads up first. The economy has not been kind and my boat has got to find a new home. She shows her age and needs some cosmetic tlc (wood needs refinishing, broken toe rail, crack on a hatch hinge), but is very sound and ready to sail. Thank you for the comment on the boat names. Bob and I named the trailer "Going" and Bob put the name on the trip across the country to Maine. Incidentally, I love the idea of polo shirts with the logo or the sweats. Cool. Skip, Go, Going, Gone!
