To all interested in new sails and like to do hands on things (and are cheap, like me), This is not a commercial. I just purchased a 160% Genoa from Sail Rite for the new CF2 roller reefing/furling gear. With the help of Jud Preston who had done this before we sewed up the precisely cut pieces in about 6 hours; add to that about an hour to finish up the do-dads and there it is. ... a beautiful new Genny all in for $243 (which includes a bottle of fine 12 yr. scotch for Jud). The folks at Sail Rite (www.sailrite.com ) were very helpful and knowledgeable about the M-17 with a standard cut or able to make whatever adjustments to the actual measurements of luff, leach and foot that you want. My mast is a full 23' - 3" off the tabernacle so we added about a foot in luff and leach over the standard .... no additional cost!. I was very impressed and what fun to sail under a hand made rag. They include everything you need except the sewing machine. Cloth to your specs (I chose the dacron Supercruise 4.4 oz at Sail Rites recommendation for the type of sailing I will generally do here in the mountain West), dacron thread, clew, tack and head attachments to your specs and excellent instructions. I could not be more pleased and the sail makes a big difference in the way the boat responds whether in tight or off. My next will be the main. and then .... Venting aggressions

Well, we've passed the shortest day of the year. From here on out it gets closer to spring and to sailing season again. I think that is what is needed. Too much time on one's hands and not enough activity brings out the worst in people. I'm reading up on Navigation while I wait for spring, maybe then I'll be a better sailor!! Time for a cool change! Connie Re M15 motor mount

Hi Connie, My one complaint with my M15 was the motor mount. I bought it new and assumed from the literature that Jerry mailed me that the motor mount was like the one in the picture in the literature. It wasn't. Mine is fiberglass. It vibrates at any speed. Very annoying. I have wanted to change it but wasn't sure just what to change it with so it would look alright with the new one. Please share with me the name, model number and company name and phone number so I can get the same one you have. Thanks so much for your help. Chet, We sail a 1988 M-15 and I find the cockpit very functional. I mostly sail by myself and find the stock tiller just a bit short for sitting all the way forward towards the cockpit bulkhead. I find all the way forward to be the best place to sit for boat balance. and all the lines are handy within reach. A tiller extender is a really nice addition. I am thinking of making a longer tiller for our 15, just to give it a try. Some have suggested using a J-24 tiller. For sitting in the cockpit of the 15 for long periods of time there is no issue other than your "bum" going to sleep due to sitting on a hard surface for long periods of time. Sometimes when the wx is particularly rough I will go down onto one knee on the cockpit sole, to try and help balance the boat. The cockpit on the 17 is deeper and very comfortable. It has higher backrests and is bigger. Also, on the 17 it matters less where you sit. The keep a number of event pictures or links on thier site and the ones on the unique log canoe ( these are 3 - 5 log 30+ foot sailboats) races from this past September are quite good. M-15 cockpit comfort?

Hi all, I'm interested in downsizing to a 15 to 18 foot boat. The Montgomery's look great, and I wonder if any of you can tell me if the M-15 has a deep enough cockpit to sit in comfortably, or is it a "knees in the chest" type of cockpit? Thanks for any info. Chet

Bob, the reason I am asking is that my M-15 is a 1981 model (MMP151891281) and I think the centerboard had steel in it. I had opened up on 3 sides and had to be extracted forceably by Morrison Marine (Mel)here is Sacramento. Bob, I received a new centerboard from you and it is installed on my M-15. Since I did not ask for a lead filled CB can I assume it has steel on the inside? Are the lead filled CB's still the same total weight as the steel filled ones?
