Hi Gary.. I've tried soaking the studs with WD-40, Kroil penetrating oil and a penetrating oil from W-Marine...all to of no avail. I've bent a tire iron or two in the past several years, and may try heating the studs with a propane torch when the weather gets a little better<GG> All in all, I may replace the whole shebang. I think that the tires are radials, IIRC, and W-Marine's wheels have bias ply<sigh> Harvey/Ga M-17 Stargazer #294

Craig, What I always marvel at is Bolger's depth of thinking about boat problems. Recently he had a live aboard power boat design in MAIB, and his details were so right on the button that I cut the articles out for future reference. He had things like an air cooled diesel with a dry exhaust (heat for the boat interior in cooler weather and as simple an installation as possible). If I remember correctly he had only one through hull fitting, but the boat had large battery capacity (ballast and hotel power for extended "away from civilization cruising" ); large drinking water capacity; and grey water capacity; two dinghies, so one person isn't stranded on the boat if the other is off fishing or running an errand; built -in flotation; a bow crush zone in case you hit a dead head at night doing 10 knots.......... Bolger has thought all the usual problems through and come up with clever and very satisfactory solutions to them. Connie

Hi Craig, My first small boat - after down-sizing from the 29 footer - was the Bolger MICRO. Yes it's a square box, but boy, do you ever have lots of room in a square box! It also was a great sailer, and one time, hard on the wind on the Intercoastal near Clearwater, FL it took a 33 footer with crew hiking out on the windward side, and flying a big genny a long, long time to pass me. The windward crew were amazed, and as they imperceptibly crept past me they were asking, "what is it?" and "who makes it?". I'd probably still have it today except for the fact that stepping the 26 foot solid spruce main mast became too much for me to handle. I could easily carry it horizontally, but holding it up at about a 75 degree angle to get the heel of the mast down into the mast step in the forward compartment became too difficult. That's when I said; size is right, but mast stepping has to be easier, which led me to the ComPac 16 I had seen in the area. The ComPac was the right size but it was a poor sailer hard on the wind, and the accommodations and storage was terrible. So recognizing the shortcomings of the ComPac I then found the Montgomery, and that's where I most happily am today. ...............Oh, I also built the Bolger Cartopper and his NYMPH pram as a dinghy. Hi Don, Get the stern out of the water and stop dragging the mounting board of the outboard. The easy way to do this is to move weight forward in the M15. Start with the case of beer; the heavy anchor / chain / rode; etc. The more weight you can get forward, the less the stern immersion. Connie

Good points Craig. Sorry to hear about your tow vehicle. Maybe you could buy an old truck, strictly for towing the boat? A Ford F-150 would do a dandy job.
