Hi Doug, Welcome to the list. My M-15 came from Houston also. Jerry must have sold a lot of them down there. Only a couple of inches of snow here. Hi Scott, When I first got the M15 the trailer tires had lots of sidewall cracks. I tried to get new ones before departing Florida for Connecticut, but the shop didn't have any of the right size, and, as they told me, all trailer tires in Florida have sidewall cracks.............. So we headed back to Connecticut. However, my first job, when I got home with the M15, was to get new rims and new tires. >From the discussions on the M-List, the answer was go with radials - for the reasons you mentioned. I got Goodyear tires, with wheels properly balanced, and have been totally happy with the results. Connie

To help ease the decision process, you have to answer a number of questions: Just as starters, and I'm sure others can add a lot more, ............ Where do you sail, or intend to sail (and Tahiti is not a valid answer): Lakes, coasts, - close to home or far away (trailerability). How many people on board? One, two, three, four, - ages and sizes: If you say 2,600 then you need the new QM2 - forget about the M boats - that's a whole different ball game. Day sailing, short term cruising (an occasional overnight), or longer term cruising (days or weeks)? What is the level of your sailing experience? .....and your age (as you get older you don't want bigger........)? Do you want to buy a new towing vehicle to match the larger boat? Answers to these questions begin to narrow the field of choices. The better you can answer these questions, the better your choice of vessel will be to match your requirements. Connie

Gilbert, You're right. Bigger is better. But,................. Bigger is heavier; needs a bigger tow vehicle Bigger costs more. Bigger is lots more work: has more volume and area. Bigger means that toys for the "bigger" are more expensive: lines are heavier and longer; winches get more expensive (on a -15 you don't need any winches); and outboards are larger. Yes, bigger can give you standing headroom and a nice galley, but at that point you no longer have a trailerable boat; it becomes a home on the water with marina charges for dockage in the summer and storage costs in the winter. That's the trouble with sailing! It's always a compromise................ Connie

Gilbert, Actually, having subscribed to this list for years, I get the impression that more M-Listers keep their boats in slips or on moorings than keep them on their trailers. You heard from a lot of trailer people because your original question about the Cape Dory Typhoon versus the M17 said something to the effect of, "I'm interested in trailerability because I want the versatility to leave the neighborhood and explore . . ." If trailerability is factored in, it's a key point of comparison between the CD Ty and the Montys . . . --Craig

some manufactures say there stoves work best because they have a needle valve yet some others say that their stoves work best because it has a real regulator, which is best on propane stove?
