What the heck is a "water maker"? A filter? I have a backpacker's water filter that I keep on the boat, in case I forget to bring enough water. It's the same one I take on backpacking trips -- saves you from having to carry more than a liter or two with you. Honda 2Hp Gas Cap

A heads up for the M-15 crowd. I have seen several posts on the Potter sites about the Honda 2 Hp motor and lost gas caps. It may be a design problem or operator error. I suspect resting a large fuel container on top of the motor would pull the cap loose, but I do not have the boat at home to look at it. Of course the cap sinks, so it is not possible to tell if the restraint was broken. It is not clear to me which vintage motors have the problem. Steve R. M-15 #119 Lexington, KY

Not only that, but we seem to do a good job of going off-topic in the right direction. It was here that I was given encouragement and information that were a lot of help (to put it mildly) in removing and refitting Dolphin's diesel engine earlier this year. Off-topic: I was strongly reminded of the joys of an M-15 yesterday while removing several square feet of the attractive (but doomed) teak cabin floor on Dolphin because the underlying wood has rotted. As I was cutting across it with the Rotozip, it suddenly occurred to me that I really, _really_ didn't want to accidentally cut through the hull. Luckily the smell of cutting resin turned out to be because the previous owner had the same problem, and had solved it (albeit temporarily) by injecting resin into the rotted area. <Sigh!> Giles Morris

Hi Randy, Go back in the M-archives and look for Scott Grometer's account of his M-15 cruising for several weeks at a time in the same area you want to explore. He wrote the definitive work in this regard. He covers equipment; supplies; storage methods for long distance cruising; fuel; problems encountered; and how he did it. A most excellent dissertation of long distance cruising on an M15. I went looking through my various piles of debris in my office looking for that account - I know I printed it out and carefully saved it for future reference - but try as I might, I couldn't locate it to give you it's date. Maybe Doug can give you an hand at find it. Connie

OK, Bill and Rusty, you're on the list. This is amazing. The idea is only 4 days old and we already have 7 on the list! I sailed with the Northwest Potters on some trips last summer, and on one there were 20 boats! Lots of fun. Fred, Sounds great! Lets touch base again later this winter to start some planning as everyones summer schedules begin to take shape. All you other NW Montys out there, start thinking about doing a San Juan Rendezvous next summer. It's about time we got together. Let's make it a real event!
