M15 hoisted to paint trailer

I am a new M-15 owner. My boat came from Monterey, CA two weeks ago. Although the boat was in excellent condition, the trailer had rust and needed cleaning up. I bought a heavy duty ratchet strap on sale for $16.95 that was rated at around 4,000 to 10,000 pounds. I jacked the M-15 a few inches off the trailer using this strap as a sling. My garage has a substantial overhead beam to attach the sling to. Today I cleaned, sanded, wire brushed, primed and painted my M-15 trailer while the M-15 hung happily on the sling. The trailer looks much better and I hope I slowed the rust down. I will add new wiring, tires, and bearings is needed. I think I will take a look at the centerboard, pivot bolt, and its pendant while the boat is in my home-made sling. The little lake near my house is still frozen so I have time to work on the boat while the ice melts. Charless Fowlkes cwfowlkes(a)imt.net Bozeman, MT

There is another benefit from anchoring by the stern. I leave the hatch boards out and any small breeze blows into the cabin. It sure beats a small wind scoup in the forward hatch. Also, I leave the anchor line tied to the stern clean, and then run the rest of the line forward, outside of everything, and tie it off on the bow cleat just as I would if I were anchoring "normally". That way, if the wind does blow up during the night, all I have to do is remove the line from the stern cleat, and the boat swings around quickly and the rode is instantly 17 feet longer. Epoxy Question

Anybody know: Does epoxy bond well enough to pvc to use it for underwater applications on a boat? ie: does epoxy make a good permanent waterproof bond with PVC? Does anyone have any particular tips with regard to epoxying PVC pipe? -- Steve McClellan M15 #152 Chicago Area

While I could have saved $10-15 online by going with an unknown discount battery supplier, I decided to pay the premium and get mine at West Marine for $80. For my money I got a high quality battery in excellent condition. With proper care it should last several years. M-boats: tongue weight/towing

Hi Joe, Thanks for the comments. Now I do have to go home and weigh that landing gear. I have heard of the 10% before but just didn't apply it here. I need the boat forward on the trailer about 1 - 11/2". I'm sure that will be easier to achieve with the trailer farther into the water, when the tongue extension is finished :-). At this point I am backing down until the water is just at the tailpipe level. Don't think I want to go back any farther. With the tongue extension comes a spare tire mount and tire. Maybe that with the boat forward will make up my 140 pounds. I like that idea better than trying to shake it all into place in the parking lot. Harvey H M-15 #348 Pelican Walla Walla, WA

We don't have a portable power source for our Potter 15, but have found that an AGM sized U-1 battery takes up little room and provides 32 aH of power. I use it to power a trolling motor (very handy, that) and recharge the battery through the trolling motor's power outlet. It all works very well. Steve Tyree, P-15 #2098 Amy Ann
