Hi Harvey, I can't give you an expact P/N since it's been quite awhile since I bought and installed the hasps. Hasps and pad locks on sail lockers (and companionways) are a necessity if you are leaving the boat in a marina, or parked on a trailer somewhere. I bought the smallest ones I could find - as well as three identically keyed Abus brass locks. That simplifies life - only one key needed to open all three locks. >From looking at my WEST catalog (1999 Edition - page 196) I think what I have is "L" - "Stainless Hasps", and of the three shown, mine is probably the smallest one - Model No. 279026. When I installed them, I first put 1" closed cell foam seals on the insde of the sail locker lid, so that when the lid is closed, the foam strips seal the edge of the sail locker. Keeps out water as well as little crawly things looking for dark living places. Then I put the eye in place on the lid - drilling holes and using flat headed S/S bolts and elastic stop nuts on the inside. Then I located the folding part of the hasp on the inboard side of the cockpit, so that when the hasp was open that part would hang down and be out of the way. I located my holes so that it needed a slight force fit to get the hasp in place over the "U". That way, when sailing I have the lockers closed - no locks in place -and they won't open inadvertantly. However, exert a bit of force and they are open and the contents of the sail locker become instantly accessible. NW Rendezvous?

Larry, Bob, (and all NW M_boat sailors), I like your idea of maybe two NW get togethers, ( I don't think I can spell rendezvous right too many times :) Deena and I were aced out of our trip up to your neighborhood, last fall, (so we are still looking forward to a trip up there some time this summer. It sure would be fun to see a Montgomery fleet on one of those N Idaho lakes. I would need to build some skill and confidence before I set out in the San Juans comfortably, but I do love that area. I grew up on Vancouver Island and spent many a day out on the water there in an 8 foot dingy. Bob, you mentioned considering one of the big eastern Washington lakes. That might be closer for any of the Oregon folks that may be interested. I would be interested in knowing which ones you are thinking of? The only one I know anything about is Chelan. It's a BIG lake, nice clear water, deep, with very steep rocky shores except at each end. There are Forest Service camping sites along the middle and upper thirds, and accommodations at the lower end, ( Chelan area ) that range form basic Super 8 Motel to some very fine (read expensive) resorts and Bed and Breakfasts. The upper end at Stehekin does have accommodations too, and it has campgrounds, and lodges and B&B establishment. Most of those reserve early in the season would be my guess. There would be some better anchorages up there, however that is a 55 mile sail from Chelan and 30 mile up lake from the State Park at 25 mile Creek. There are two spots on the rivers down near us that do have pretty reliable winds. One on the Columbia, at Hat Rock State park just up river from McNary Dam by Hermiston, Oregon. There is a private RV park just about a mile from the park and launch site there, and about 15 - 25 miles of river sailing or more if you wanted to go all the way up to Tri-Cities ( Pasco, Kennewick, & Richland ) to where the Snake runs into the Columbia. The other would be at Charbanou (?spelling ) about 8 miles up the Snake River past Ice harbor Dam. This is where the Tri-Cities Yacht Club sails out of. There is navigable river from there for about ( from memory ) 30 - 40 miles up the river. Neither of these have the nice clean clear water of any of the previously mentioned lakes. There is all I know for now. Ideas. Lets hear from the rest too. We need lots of input, and it sure will be fun to get together, anywhere. Harvey & Deena M-15 #348 PELICAN Walla Walla, WA

Howard, I have been thinking of an appropriate method of tracking the "flow" of the Two Sands, and you obviously have come up with a way to do it before my brain lept into gear! (Sometimes I wonder whether or not my brain is capable of leaping into gear.) I will send the Two Sands to Stan, along with the names I print off of the list. Tom

Steve, Dual head sails - on twin head stays - is used for Trade wind sailing. >From the Canarie Islands to Barbados; or Transpacific. i.e., it is a solution for a very specific sailing problem; running for days and days on long passages. I doubt that any owner of an M15 is contemplating such a trip. For any sailing that I've done with the M15, I can't think of any situation where I'd want to go to the complication of dual head stays. It sure isn't worth the hassle for a 1 hour run! Stay with the original set-up and if you really have to have a new toy, then get a genniker and enjoy that. M_Boats NW Rendezvous ! ! !

Larry, (and anyone else interested in a NW Rendezvous,) Good Morning. Haven't had much time to be looking at this list so from what is backed up I'm sure I have been missing a lot, however, Deena told me there was something on the list about a NW get together so I have started at the end of the list and working my way back up the list. After watching the snow come down outside most of the night, the thoughts of a group of Montgomerys, sails full and pushing up into blue skies, clear blue water and a hint of heal in hulls, is really appealing. The idea of a group sail is also motivating and I am really looking forward to it. We would love to take "Pelican" to most anywhere in the Northwest. To me, it would seem logical to see who is interested, and from where and then find somewhere in the middle. Of course giving some preference to things like consistent winds, good water, interesting area, launching and mooring facilities, lodging requirements and organizational requirements should be weighed in as well. There are probably dozens of great places to sail, we just need to sort them out and pick a place. Naturally, scheduling is a B I G factor. Need to know ahead of time to schedule time off for those interested is paramount. For some of us, time off is flexible more or less, and some it is not an issue, others it is a major factor. Being of the working type, and not having much flexibility in my time off, it depends on when it is whether we would be able to go or not. My work week runs from Wednesday to Wednesday, and my following Wednesday to Wednesday is for the most part, time off, except for travel time to work. It is an every other week schedule that is almost set in concrete. For that reason, if we can set it up for the week that I am off work, we for sure will plan on being there, otherwise it becomes very "ify". I don't know what kind of, or how much work there would be to setting this up or making the arrangements, but I would be glad to do what I can to help. I didn't know anything about the San Juan rendezvous last fall, maybe we weren't on the list or it fell on a work week and just passed it off, but it may be interesting to know about as well.
