He could also put a two page spread in his program with a coupon for donations to PETA. Still no problem. But, if you pay to see him in concert you would expect to be entertained. If he were to stop mid show and give a 20 minute speech on animal rights I would think he crossed the line. If I wanted that then I would have attended a benefit concert for PETA or what have you. Personally I, and many others, thought he was pushing it when during the retrospective film shown before his 89 and 93 tours he added a 90-120 second sequence of animals getting tested on and tortured to Helter Skelter. But really that was the end of it so ok. However, if the artist is politically minded, such as Zappa for example, I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped to tell me how evil he thought current politicans are. I would expect that so wouldn't be as offended. That's at least my opinion on it. I didn't pay to be lectured so you could argue he "took" my money then lectured me -- which is what I think Dan was trying to say. Thinking about it, tho, perhaps Dan meant in a wider view. Like turning on the tv and seeing Barbara Streisand telling me to lose the clothes dryer and hang my clothes to dry on a line in the backyard and conserve energy. Sure she has a right to do that, but we as the public also have the right to yell at the tv screen "aw shut the hell up." -paul

I found a bit more info, although it's not completely the way I remember it... "Bill Drummond isn't a newcomer to the British music scene by any means. The short list: member of the late-'70s Liverpool band Big In Japan (with later-to-be-frontman for Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Holly Johnson). Founding partner with David Balfe of the Zoo record label (releasing early efforts by friends that included Julian Cope and Echo And The Bunnymen; Balfe's Food Records is now home base for Jesus Jones). Former manager for Echo And The Bunnymen and The Teardrop Explodes. Former A&R man for WEA records, where he signed Brilliant (June Montana, Killing Joke's bassist Youth, and a guitarist named Jimmy Cauty ;) )"

The only similarity I can recall is "There's No Other Way" was playing in the clubs at the same time as WTIL, LTTT, America WTIL, and 3AM. We Didnt Start The Fire has a political message set to Bon Jovi music, so why didnt Bon Jovi have a political message. Because he's too scared to go against his record company. Comedians dont have that burden, they are free agents. That is why Lee Evans is a fucking cunt for having all of that profile and not using it. the point is, if you dont want to hear an artists message dont buy the music papers and dont go to gigs. Nobody has any right to tell anybody what to say as long as their words dont physically harm anyone. everybody has an opinion on every thing and the disagreements are what make it interesting. Anyway, everybody has their own limits of whats acceptible. This is why I agree with Richey Edwards when he said that even supposedly leftist people wont condone everything as entertainment. he said that they should show criminals being ripped in half by horses after Blue Peter, thats the only way kids will learn that crime is wrong. How can you disagree with that and if you do you must have some conservative, rightist, republican, Ronald Reagan scumfuck blood in you.
