M15 Centerboard

I have been painting the bottom with epoxy barrier coat. First I suspended the boat to paint the keel with 4 coats of barrier coat, then a few coats of bottom paint. While I had it suspended, I had to pry it (the centerboard) out. I looped a strap around it before resting the boat on the keel again so I would have something to pull it down again when I launch it. At that time I will lift it with a crane and free the board before putting it in the water for the rest of the season. I was thinking of drilling a very small hole in the bottom corner where the cb always seems to stick out a little bit so I have a means to pull it down, but was reluctant to do that just yet. Anyone considered that? BTW, my CB is black. Is that the original finish? I was thinking of pulling it at the end of the season to work on it so it will freely go up and down. But for now, I just want to sail! Scott Larson

Bulk heads

I have a 1976 M17. The port side cockpit storage locker, under the bench, is enclosed with plywood bulkheads that are completely sealed to the haul. Water in this locker does not drain to the bilge pump at the low point. Is this the correct arrangement? Seems like it should have drain holes through the bulkheads??? Question #2. It seems part of my forestay rigging is missing. It seems to be approximately 18" short. Does anyone know how long this is suppose to be. I bought this boat last Nov in Minnesota and have not had it in the water yet. Slow going. Probably won't get to sail until next season.

Gary, My 1976 M17 hull #92 has the plywood bulkheads in the locker. I do not believe it had drain holes. On another note, my M17 does not have a bilge. Some M17s have them, others do not. Odd about the forestay. Jerry can chime in and both tell you the length, and also make you one. Are you in Minnesota? FW: Sailing

Went to Pine Lake with Louie & Sally H today and sailed for 2 hours winds from the NNW @ 3-8 K variable gusting up t o15.5 at one point early in the sail. Boat handled very well with new 4 part mainsheet set up just in front of hatch (same point mainsheet attached with yoke traveler system). Traversed both E & W bays of lake did some downwind sailing wing on wing and returned to slip and had lunch under tent at launch ramp site.
