My M15 TwoCan is up for sale

1985 Jerry-built M15. Offwhite hull with green sheer stripe. Pineapple Main & lapper jib, both really should be replaced. I also have the original McKibbin sails (for sizing). I have owned this boat for about 5 years or so. Since that time I have removed and rebedded the mast tabernacle, and most of the jamb cleats. I have one extra rudder blade that JO Woodworks made for me, plus the original. Tiller has Ronstan battlestick and Tiller Clutch. 2 danforth-style anchors. Normal cosmetic wear for a boat of this age. She does not have the CB rust disease. The only time the CB stuck was a couple of times when I beached her and pebbles got in there. was able to crawl underneath and hose out. All lines run aft to the cockpit. That includes a block on the bow through which you can run a jib downhaul, or use that same line to attach to the Jib halyard shackle to facilitate raising & lowering the mast singlehanded. Outboard is a Yamaha 4hp, circa 1992. Runs fine. 2-cycle, 100:1 ratio. Trailer is OK, needs occasionally touch up paint to keep rust from forming. Boat is in my garage in the Sacramento area. I am selling because I am moving in several weeks to the East Coast and would prefer not to drag the boat cross country. But if she doesn't sell before May 21st, she's coming along for the ride and then she's stuck with me ;-) My house is sold and I have to be out on May 22nd to begin my cross country trek. This is the boat that ran the Cruiser Challenge in less than 12 parsecs. Hello fellow sailers, Just bought M15 number 365. I'am in White Salmon Wa. and the boat is in Nancy Ky. I've been looking for a while and this had what I wanted. Recent sails, motor, trailer, rig, etc. The boat looks really clean and the owner is a good guy. Can you spell " ROAD TRIP ". Trailer roller axles

FYI, Just installed five boat trailer rollers in the bunkboard that my Monty 17 keel slides on. Now it rolls on and off the trailer with just the port and starboard bunk boards rubbing on the hull. Discovered that the "Pal Nuts" that come with the 5/8 inch diameter axles are an iffy product to use. Had several of them tapped onto the ends of some of the axles. They were all the way on, about 1/2 inch worth of axle inside. Then happened to pull on one to see how well it grabbed the metal axle. It came right back off in my hand. Went on to check all of them and about half were just sitting there just waiting to come off and allow the spinning axle to unscrew itself and dump my beautifully restored keel down onto the metal braces for the rollers. Ouch. Ended up removing all the "Pal(?) Nuts" and drilled all the axles for 1/8 inch ss. cotter pins on washers at each end. This year's "shake down cruise" is fast approaching. Great Slave Lake Sailing Video

Last year we had a great trip to the Great Slave Lake in Canada with our 1986 Montgomery 15. I hatched the idea of going to the Great Slave Lake when I realized it was about the same distance away from me as the North Channel on Lake Huron, but seemed more wild. North Carolina Sailing at Newfoundland: heaving-to

A crossroads community of less than a dozen houses Newfoundland has a surprisingly good ramp. With a front wheel drive vehicle I’m normally wary of dirt ramps but I stopped at the near-by pool hall/bar/Post Office/barbecue place & learned that it was steep and deep. With a tongue extension it was possible to keep the vehicle on flat ground and easily float the M-15. The weather wasn’t the best but if you wait for perfect weather you don’t go sailing much. Finding low winds in the sheltered waters near the ramp I sailed off under full main and jib expecting to reef and perhaps change headsails later. Later was less than 2 miles downriver the Little Alligator widens from a width of 100 yards to 1/3 mile and I put a 1st reef in. Another ½ hour I put in a 2nd reef and was still sailing at 4.5 -5.0 knots. I usually heave-to under a backed jib but in some situations (like narrow rivers) the amount of fore-reaching the boat does is a problem. Since I already had 2 reefs in I decided to see how the boat handled under the main alone. I had successfully hove-to once before with the tiller tied slightly a-lee as some books suggest but couldn’t easily replicate a stable condition. Dropping the jib, raising the CB, and ignoring the tiller, the boat sailed itself across the wind at 0.9 knots which worked better than tying the helm slightly to the lee. In the 16 knot winds I had expected the boat to round up with only the mainsail. However, with a doubled-reefed, tightly sheeted mainsail the center of effort appeared to be right in the middle of the boat. As the hull slipped across the water it created a slick that interrupted on-coming waves. In gusts the increased slippage caused the tiller to be pushed a little to leeward. As long as I kept my weight centered the boat generally, but not always, kept its course. A more consistent heave-to was possible with the tiller completely lashed over. At an acute angle it failed to steer and acted like a drag. The heading improved a little, boat speed dropped., and the course was more stable.
