David, My M15 - #400, had the port locker that went to the bottom of the hull, but the starboard locker had the moulded in shallow storage space. I looked at all the nice storage space I couldn't reach; scratched my head for a bit; contemplated my navel, and finally decided on my course of action. I carefully cut around the lip of the sail locker - at the center of the flat surface, and removed the shallow locker. Then I added supports at the inside of the sail locker so that the shallow locker had something to rest on when I dropped it back in place. Now I had the best of all worlds: the shallow locker for glasses; keys; and small stuff; but if I lifted it out, I now had access to the whole space below, where I now keep my boarding ladder; extra cockpit cushions; my paddle; and the bimini top. It also allows me to check the bilge aft of the centerboard trunk - that is normally unreachable. A 4 foot hose and my old PAR pump and I can remove any water that may get in there. It was rather easy to replace, but the boat was on its side in my driveway and I was able to jack up the keel to give myself space to put the new board in. Sandy -- I had the exact same idea, having recently used a few cans of "Great Stuff" in a home project. It would fill up any shaped area completely with lightweight, waterproof foam. I can understand not wanting to waste valuable storage space with large blocks of styrofoam, but why NOT fill up those areas that cannot be used for storage -- what about inside the cockpit coamings, for instance? One downside might be the expense -- I'm not really sure what volume of foam you can get from one can, but I doubt it would be so large as a single cubic foot. On the other hand, this solution, if it worked, would be so elegant and so effective that it might be worth it. I don't own a monty and have no experience with positive flotation. I do have a suggestion as to how to add it however. If you opened up a heavy duty plastic bag inside an empty space on the boat and sprayed insulation foam from a can into the bag, The expanding foam would fill the space completely. The plastic bag would keep it from sticking to the hull and make cutting it out easier if needed. The plastic bag could be replaced with any container or shape that would suit your purpose such as making a cooler or storage space. Sandy
