Well, I can't get the time right now to make a full on webpage like I'd like to do describing the full 14 day trip. I will, but it's gonna be while. The trip was fantastic, just as we knew it would be. The logistics of actually getting there once again proved worth all the trouble and expense. Jo and I (and Bosun) had a fantastic time. It was great to re-unite with old friends from before and make new friends as well. We drove over 3000 miles towing our 23 behind, sailed and motored somewhere in the vicinity of 200 miles, Spent three weeks away from home and jobs, 7 nights staying in our camper and 14 nights afloat in a different location almost every night! WOW!! Larry Yake is the master. What else can be said. He planned a trip of a lifetime....AGAIN.The amount of planning and work that he put into making this trip a success cannot even be imagined. I am not aware of one crew that had a major problem, or even a minor one that was not taken care of quickly. Consider that we had 14 days on the water, 16 different boats, crews of every experience level, some old salts and some very new to sailing and you have to just be in awe of how well things went. The cooperation between crews during group meetings where everyone's input was taken into account helped to keep us all having fun and being safe. I can't wait to see the rest of your pictures! I snail-mailed Randy a cd of all of our shots to be included with the group photo cd. Thank you everyone involved for a fabulous time. We loved hanging out with you all and only wish it could have gone on even longer. For now, back to work to build up the cruising kitty again in preparation for the next time. By the way...it is official too, Larry Yake controls the weather in the San Juan Islands. He promised 'Jo when visiting us in Feb, that it would not rain in the San Juans during our trip. He was good to his word! That's a pretty big promise to make that far out unless you have some connections, so I'd say he's the man! Apparently, the Canadians do not recognize Larry's certification, as we can report that it does rain in the Gulf Islands (but not too bad) 12.75 days out of 14 of sunshine = pretty good I think! Yeah...seems to me "Uncle Larry" was put on restriction or something like that! hahaha It would have been fine if you would have brought him aboard "Corndog" for the night! BUT NOOOOO! hahaha Then you banished us to the extreme end of the dock...remember that???? That "random" slip assignment! hahaha That one night you got him going (the night before you got put on restriction) it was like going to bed with and 45lb F-5 tornado aboard till he wound down! hahaha Seriously, though...you guys all were great with our pooch and we sure do appreciate that. I think he had as much fun as we did! heck...I'm heading out to the driveway, hitching up, and getting ready to head out...LETS DO IT AGAIN!!! Right, Jerry? The 15 with a cockpit floor an inch or two higher would keep the water out, but seating wouldn't be nearly as "big boat" comfortable as it is with the current configuration. I don't know why so many sailors are concerned about a bit of water in the cockpit. It's a sailboat. Get over it. It's more important that the cabin stays dry. And it does. I am constantly amazed at how dry the cabin is, even in messy conditions. The only times I've had water inside are when I haven't closed up the cabin or had driving rain against the hatch boards forcing itself under the bottom board. Oh, yeah. And when I scooped up a cockpit full of water, to the top of the bridge deck, a cupful or so splashed inside. Sean, Wonderful pictures, thank you from all of us that could not be in attendance. I really enjoyed seeing pics of folks I have met and places I have seen during my 2005 trip. Larry, the hot dog hat is a "shoe-in" with corn dog! What a grand display of M23's! Jerry will be proud. On another note, just to show us midwest M-boaters are not sleeping, Gordon Gilbert and I are planning a Montgomery attack to Isle Royale on Lake Superior next week with our mighty M17's. Just got back from the San Juans! Pictures!

Hi guys, We just got back Saturday afternoon from our trip to the San Juan Islands with the Montgomery group (huge thanks to Larry for herding the cats and setting this all up). We had an awesome time and met so many nice Montgomery owners and their boats. This was our first time seeing the M23 (impressive and huge) and the M15 (equally impressive to see two people comfortably sleeping on this pocket cruiser). We also went from zero overnight trips on our M17 to eight nights, and it was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be (I am 6'7"). We kept up pretty well with the rest of the group also, even though we were one of the few M17 boats with 2 people onboard. I think we also win smallest outboard award (2.5hp Yamaha) but it pushes the boat at 4.5 to 5 kts in calm water. We tried to sail as much as possible anyway. At one point we were actually keeping pace with the M23 Faith and staying ahead of M17 Corndog. I had to rag Larry about this over the FRS but then he pulled out the rest of his 150 and sailed past us :-( We have uploaded a bunch of unedited pictures to http://www.eidolonyacht.com/sanjuanislands2009 for you to enjoy. These are just a raw upload of all the pictures with many similar shots. If you click on a thumbnail you will get the full image. Note that it is really hard to get a stable non-blur shot when close hauled. :-) Hopefully others will upload some shots of our boat as sadly we have never had a picture taken of her while we were under sail. Right, Jerry? The 15 with a cockpit floor an inch or two higher would keep the water out, but seating wouldn't be nearly as "big boat" comfortable as it is with the current configuration. I don't know why so many sailors are concerned about a bit of water in the cockpit. It's a sailboat. Get over it. It's more important that the cabin stays dry. And it does. I am constantly amazed at how dry the cabin is, even in messy conditions. The only times I've had water inside are when I haven't closed up the cabin or had driving rain against the hatch boards forcing itself under the bottom board. Oh, yeah. And when I scooped up a cockpit full of water, to the top of the bridge deck, a cupful or so splashed inside. The trip was fantastic, just as we knew it would be. The logistics of actually getting there once again proved worth all the trouble and expense. Jo and I (and Bosun) had a fantastic time. It was great to re-unite with old friends from before and make new friends as well. We drove over 3000 miles towing our 23 behind, sailed and motored somewhere in the vicinity of 200 miles, Spent three weeks away from home and jobs, 7 nights staying in our camper and 14 nights afloat in a different location almost every night! WOW!! Larry Yake is the master. What else can be said. He planned a trip of a lifetime....AGAIN.The amount of planning and work that he put into making this trip a success cannot even be imagined. I am not aware of one crew that had a major problem, or even a minor one that was not taken care of quickly. Consider that we had 14 days on the water, 16 different boats, crews of every experience level, some old salts and some very new to sailing and you have to just be in awe of how well things went. The cooperation between crews during group meetings where everyone's input was taken into account helped to keep us all having fun and being safe. I can't wait to see the rest of your pictures! I snail-mailed Randy a cd of all of our shots to be included with the group photo cd. Thank you everyone involved for a fabulous time. We loved hanging out with you all and only wish it could have gone on even longer. For now, back to work to build up the cruising kitty again in preparation for the next time.
