M17 for sale

Hi all those wannabe Monty owners, There is an early 80's (I don't remember the exact year) M17 for sale in Berkley, CA that needs TLC but comes with all equipment, incl. trailer & motor. Original ad (12/12/08) on Craigslist asked 5,350. Ad is no longer up but owner just emailed me that he had lowered the price to 3,500. I was interested, although I live on the East coast, however I'm looking for one needing less work. Also the pictures he posted with the ad were of a much later model, pictures he'd copied from the company website probably not realizing the many design changes over the years. Chesapeake Bay

Stan, You are so right about the attractions in the Tidewater, Va area - especially the Mariners Museum. Way back in '75-'76 I took a few courses at Thomas Nelson College taught by Mike O'Brien (for many years now with Wooden Boat Magazine). In one of the classes he taught we all had to do a project which a buddy of mine and I chose to take the lines off a small (about 13') decked sailing canoe at the Mariners Museum. I believe her name was "Little Sunshine", built in the late 1800's. I helped him with the lines (I'm terrible at that stuff), which he drew out and I wrote a paper about the decked sailing canoes from that era (W.P. Stephens, Rushton, etc). I remember the boat was beautifully constructed and the library at the Mariners Museum had a wealth of information. Really neat stuff...I've read that if you remember one sentence from a college class then you're doing good. I remember two things Mike O'Brien said: "Phil Bolger is a genius" and "The difference between a professional boatbuilder and an amateur is the time is takes to build a boat"..... BTW, I want to extend my offer to any Monty owner (whether in a group or solo) who wants to leave their boat in a safe storage area in Solomons,Md while cruising the Bay.... Greg M17 "Spoonful"
