Waterline idea

Hey Jerry, I like that Mexican solution. It seems to me that the use of any type of transit or laser level requires that the boat is level. To me that's always been a problem, short of putting the boat in the water. The boat needs to be level in all directions and the only place I can think of that would possibly give an accurate reading is the v-berth and that's not guaranteed. On the other hand the Mexican method only requires that the boat be only parallel to the surface it's setting upon. Well, all that being said, I don't know how to get the boat parallel either. How did they do that? Hello Nick, Welcome aboard. You have found a warm, helpful, dedicated group of Montgomery sailors. When you have the time, review some of the archives for additional info on these great boats. I imagine you have found Bill Lamica's photo gallery. It does seem Montgomery boats are getting a bit more difficult to find. It took me two years to locate my M17, buying in 1997. They do come up for sale from time to time and one must be prepared to trailer one from states away. The Great Lakes are wonderful cruising waters, my M17 has been on two of them, Superior and Huron. I'm in Minnesota, and we have no shortage of large lakes to explore and enjoy. Keep searching, and you will find a wonderful boat you can enjoy for years to come. Thank you Mark, I'd overlooked that important point. I'm located in Fredonia, NY right now. I say right now because since 1999 I've been a full time RV'er. My present mobile domicile is a Roadtrek. My goal is to tow an M17 behind the Roadtrek. I've been away from sailing too long. Prior to embarking on the life of an RV gypsy I owned a Tartan 27. A wonderful boat that I still miss but I couldn't afford yard & mooring fees and do the RV thing on my shoestring economy. The Nimble, which I bought in a rash moment, is sitting in storage in northern Florida. It turned out to be much heavier than advertised. Too heavy to tow safely with my Roadtrek. I have a home base now, here in Fredonia, at a friends house. It looks like a good place to explore the Great Lakes from, with a good launch facility nearby at Dunkirk harbor. My reason for wanting a Montgomery rather than any of the many other easily trailed boats out there is the reputation for superior sailing abilty that the Montgomerys have. Swap a Nimble Kodiak for an M17

Well; I'm willing to trade a 1993 Nimble Kodiak worth about $10,000 to $15,000 for an M17 of equal or lesser value as long as it's in sailaway condition. Sure, I'll lose some money on the deal but I'd rather be sailing a Monty next summer. The Nimble is more boat than I need and too heavy for my tow vehicle. Not much of a close winded sailer either. In furtherance of my aspirations to become a m-15 owner (aka "wannabe"), does anyone have any opinions about the benefits of increased ventilation in an m-15 such as: 1 air scoop on foredeck 2 small hatch on foredeck 3 small hatch on front of cabin 4 opening ports on sides 5 don't bother
