Wow, Tod! Good thing your pintles were the short strap version allowing the rudder to split open. If they were the long strap model I bet you would have damaged the transom. Must have been quite an impact. I agree, a kick-up rudder is the way to go. Larry

Hi Joe, Congratulations. You bought a great boat. What you will need as equipment, is of course a function of where you are going to sail. Your two previous boats should give you a good base of what is needed. The M15 may be smaller, but the same requirements still exist. You should have: - and anchor or two with chain and rodes - mooring lines - fenders - a reserve gasoline can, with fuel, for the outboard. I carried a 1 gallon can, plus 1 quart oil containers filled with fuel. The smaller containers made it very easy to refuel the 2 HP HONDA. - PFDs for yourself and your passengers - cockpit cushions - a pail with a line; and cleaning materials: tooth brush, large deck brush; sponges; fiberglass cleaner - a compass - charts - for longer trips possibly a GPS and a hand held VHF radio - a pencil and note pad (small) to write down all the items you want to remember when you get home. - a tool box with screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches to fit everything on the boat and the trailer, plus spare cotter pins or rigging rings; spare clevis pins for when one goes splash; a spare spark plug - galley equipment: knives / forks / spoons; depending on what you want to eat and if you want to cook. After much gnashing of teeth, it appears I will soon be the owner of a new M15. I emailed Bob regarding suggestions on how to get a used M15 shipped to Indiana, if I could find a recent model. He called me in 15 minutes to tell me he had a new, black hull M15 needing a new owner. A match nearly made in heaven. Bob had nicknamed the boat "midnight passage", and we are keeping the name (how can you go against the guy who built it?). With a little luck "Midnight Passage" will make her maiden voyage sometime in the next few weeks. I'll need to fit her out with the bare essentials in order to get some time under sail before the weather changes. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. She will be our third boat, having had a Hunter 23, and a Seaward Fox. Joe Moore

Congratulations, Joe! You'll love "Midnight Passage" and I can't wait to see photos. I probably sail as bare bones as anyone- the requisite PFDs, a small gas tank (1 gallon normally), an oar or paddle in case of no wind and no engine, and a few safety items such as fire extinguisher and air horn. Oh, and if you launch from a dock, you'll want bumpers. Bobbie

I enjoyed the pictures of the cruise, and went back and looked at the pics of the work you did on the boat. Amazing! Even though I'd seen them mostly before (I hadn't looked at the ones with the rudder) it is still amazing how much work you did and how great she looks. Bobbie
