New Brochures and more

Just finished a long project for the Photo Site: Steve Shenkel loaned me old brochures and they have all been scanned (over 500 pages) cropped, turned into PDF's and published. That's over 80 new (old) brochures. And, also PDF'd are the lyrics to every song on 26 albums by Jimmy Buffet. If you ever wanted to sing along to the masters tunes, here's your opportunity to use the real words. New additions are in Black and you'll also see any file over 4MB has been noted in red. I know some have had problems because some of the files are large. By acknowledging the large files gives warning... It could take a while to download have patience. Also, if you aren't using Adobe Reader 7.0, get it for free at the link provided. And a tip. after you D/L the file, click on the page tab at the left of the screen and you can see thumbnails of all the pages to help spot what it is you want to see. Thanks Don. I think I need to actually see something on a similarly size sailboat to set up the hardware on my M-15 boom. Folsom lake here in Sacramento valley is the closest. Time for a lake visit. This question goes along with Bobbie's question about boom location, I think. There are several San Juan 21s where my M15 is moored. The SJs have a rope bridals similar to the M15 set up, but the bridal is knotted in the middle to keep the boom centered. Several had added lines and blocks to simulate a traveler. Montgomery T-shirts

Hey Gang, Just an update of where we are with the Montgomery Sailboats T-shirt/sweatshirt order. We are coming down to the last few days to get your orders in and we are pretty short of reaching the goal of a 50 order minimum. Truth is that as of today I only have 20 paid orders in. Not a big deal. If we don't get enough interest we'll just have to put the t-shirt thing off for now. If you have been thinking about ordering but just haven't gottem around to it, no problem, but let me know asap. 7/15 is the deadline date we set to place orders and get your payment in. Remember, that I am not cashing any checks until we see if we get enough orders in. The magic number was 50 items (not orders) in order to get the price break on a 5 color silk screen. Missing my old boat

Several years ago I sold my Montgomery 17, Raven. We're in the Pacific Northwest. I loved that boat and she took care of us in pretty heavy weather, once. We moved up in boat size, due to my growing family, and had to sell her. I'm just wondering if Raven is still around. I'd love to here stories of where she's been. Raven is recognizable by the raven painting on both sides of her bow and on the hatch cover. She has a blue hull with a white deck. All lines lead aft. Has anyone seen her?

yesterday's sail

Once again, buoy number 45005 has eluded my grasp. This time Bilbo and I headed up to the lake Saturday evening....didn't get started until after eleven....and set the boat up in the dark. Normally I leave her up there rigged, but I hadn't been up since my Chesapeake trip in June. Was out on the water by three am, in search of weather buoy #45005. Only thing is, I forgot my charts. Oh well, it's out there somewhere! My gps is an etrex mariner and it has some buoys loaded into it, but no other data, so it is hard to tell if you are looking at the right buoy without comparing the gps to a chart, and did I say I had left mine at home? So, I picked a likely looking one and set off in that direction. We had a marvelous wing-and-wing run all the way out. Sunrise in the middle of the lake was quite nice, much prettier than this picture suggests as all the vivid reds seem to have been washed out: http://www.bright.net/~htmills/LF-LEsunrise.jpg There were no other boats in sight. Not long after that, I hove-to for 20 minutes to try to catch a few winks, but was still too wound up. So, I poured myself a cup of coffee from the thermos, had a sandwich, and set off again for the buoy which was another five miles or so away. Finally it came into view, but it wasn't the buoy that I was hoping to find. Buoy 45005 isn't programmed into my gps. I guess I've ruined my chances of being known to future generations as "Tod the Navigator". Darn. http://www.bright.net/~htmills/LF-SEshoalLight.jpg I knew I was at the Southeast Shoal Light, which marks the eastern end of Pelee Passage. I turned back for home, choosing to beat over to the lee of Pelee Island first so as to take advantage of flatter water. At this time, people who had sailed across for the weekend were now returning. There was a fair amount of traffic in this area connecting some Ohio cities with Leamington, Ontario and a few other Canadian towns. One boat I saw should've been knocking Busca's socks off but they were barely able to pass us. I saw why: http://www.bright.net/~htmills/LF-NWTS.jpg Their boom was sheeted WAY to weather. By the afternoon, black flies were thick and very annoying, despite a decent breeze. I spent no small amount of effort shooing them while the sheet-to-tiller kept course. Eventually, I saw that we would be arriving back at the marina way too late, so I reluctantly dropped sail and motored straight back, cutting a few hours off and allowing us to arrive a bit before dark. This was Bilbo's last sail. I probably shouldn't have brought him along; he's just getting too infirm to appreciate the way the boat moves over every wave. I laid out my cockpit cushions to pad him a bit, but I could tell he would have preferred to stay home where he can sun himself in the grass and wander down the to creek to cool off when he wants. He has some arthritis, a bone malignancy on his snout, is mostly blind in one eye and half blind in the other, and is deaf in one ear and mostly deaf in the other. But he seems to be in good spirits and he has a good appetite. I leave the door open for him so he can come and go as he pleases and usually when I come home from work I can see that he's been down to the creek at least once, . He sleeps a lot. braided nylon size/ stowing boom in cabin rigged

I need to replace my mainsheet and jib sheet. Anyone know what size braided nylon that should be? It looks to me like maybe 1/2 inch, and our store has 5/8 and 3/8. (Maybe the main sheet is 5/8.) The cleats that hold the jib sheets are worn and don't jam well; if I used the 5/8 (assuming it is supposed to be 1/2 inch) would that maybe work better? Also, the main sheet is worn because when I put the boom in the cabin with the rigging attached, there isn't a lot of room at the corner for the lines. I was thinking of cutting out a little bigger opening in either the teak hatch cover for them or in the vertical part of the fiberglass hatch cover. Has anyone done this? Which should I cut? (If either.) Bobbie

I'm reminded of my Lab, Mandy, who was barely four when I got my M15 and passed away 12 years ago at the age of 13. She was a great sailor although she preferred the cabin when things were rough or we were beating, and came out into the cockpit when we ran with the wind. The Monty has a great deck for doggy paws, and the dogs (two other Labs as well) loved it. Now I have corgis and their legs are just a little too short to make them good boat dogs, so I leave them home. Bobbie
