Robbin: The M-15 was not supplied with a boom vang but several owners have installed their own. send me your e-mail address and i'll forward you some pictures of mine. The block on the side of the boom and the jam cleat are for the "jiffy" reefing of the main sail (again added by the owner). I have double reefs so theres a flat block and jam cleat on either side of my M-15 boom for that purpose. The outhaul was also re-rigged by the previous owner. It comes from the factory as a one to one ratio and most folks use a three-to-one. There are some excellent photos of the reef arrangement and the outhaul on doug kelch's web site. It would be nice to have some adjustment on the outhaul, Robbin. If the wind is light, I have a very slack outhaul. As the wind increases, I tighten it up. Mount a small closed v cleat (so the line doesn't fall out when slack) on the side of the boom a foot or so forward of the little block at the end of the boom so you can control the tension. Sounds like the cheek block and cleat is to reef the main, although it sounds a little far forward for that purpose. Nothing but a hole was there before. The line is looped a couple times and tied off to itself. This makes the tension of the outhaul fixed for the entire sail. Not ideal. How is it supposed to be set up? Also, the boom has a fixed/flat block about half way on one side with a jam cleat forward of this. Are these for my boom vang? If so how would they work with a vang? I have looked about on the web site a bit for diagrams and have not had any luck. Bobbie: The M15 doesn't have a traveller but sometimes I have sheeted the boom to centerline using a homemade traveller when sailing closed hauled in a breeze, racing. I bought a 150 Genny for Sweet Dream from EP and use it all the time. We have a lot of light air in the summer on the gulf and mr Pattison said it was good for up to 15 knots (which it is). I cant say how much extra speed it gives since I've never tryed one jib, then the other while sailing a fixed course but it seems to do the job. of course, you need to install new cleats for the genny and the jib sheets go outside the stays. Larry: I bought them at west marine, theres a left hand and right hand version and they fit in the holes on the bracket. since the warm salt water of te gulf plays havoc with the wiring, I bought a wiring harness and re-wired the trailer also. LED's require a good ground so Iran a separate ground wire to both light assemblies. I soldered the joints and covered them with liquid rubber to help cur down on the corrosion. I just added an old brochure I came across of the "Porta-Boat:" As much as 15 - 20 years ago I was introduced to this boat in a very unusual way. The management at the San Mateo County (near SF) Sportsman's Show had charged the old guy who started the company for a booth, but over booked. He showed up late with no booth to be had. They put him in a wing with a bunch of artists who were selling some very good wildlife / flyfishing art and sculptures. Some of them hundreds of dollars, even into the thousands. Normal for the old guy, to demo the indestructible hull material, he would use a 3 pound sledge hammer and whack the sides of the hull repeatedly to prove it, convincing yet another customer. Problem was the other folks with their expensive artsy items were not happy with the old guy beating on the boats. Management got involved and came to a compromise that he could pound on his boats every 30 minutes for no more than five minutes. The deal was done and the Porta-Boat was forever referred to as the Pounda-Boat. The original owner of the Company was probably in his late 70's at the time.
