Can't help with the measurements, but keep in mind that if you want to use a back stay adjuster, you might have to shorten the stay and lengthen the bridle (Randy Graves knows more details on this). I had my cb sand blasted and recoated (some industrial strength stuff called Amerlock). Make sure the tang on the cb is in good shape--I had mine rebuilt by a good welder. Sand blast and 3 coats was $180. I didn't bother fairing the cb. More hassle than benefit in my mind, and if the outfit that blasts the board can paint it right away, you won't have to worry about rust. I've had an M15 trailer sandblasted and painted, but it's been a while. As I recall a local place in Sandpoint did the work for 3 or 400 bucks total. You might consider closed cell foam for cushions. M17 Information

I am looking for some M17 information that I am sure others have had to accumulate or run across before: 1. What is the length of the straight portion of the back stay (mast head to bridle)? I thought I saw a link to this information, but I can not find it now. 2. Approximate sand blasting costs for: a. Centerboard b. Trailrite trailer 3. Approximate amount of material required to reupholster interior cushions of earlier model with galley. This would include vinyl bottom and fabric top and sides. Thanks for your help. I can't measure backstay since boat is secured for winter, mast down and entire boat wrapped with hvy.weight Sunbrella tarp. The covering--upholstery and vinyl -- of interior cushions are original and like new. I had the centerboard sandblasted about four years ago for $25.00. Bill K, M-17 Half Monty (#55)

Trailor tongue extension

Hi all, Now that someone has raised the subject of the trailor extension, I have questions about the steps involved in using it. At what point in the launch process do you extend it? Do you have to drop the trailor jack and disconnect from the tow vehicle to extend it? Does it making backing up more difficult? I might have used it this summer when lake levels dropped and I found myself backing the truck further and further into the salty water. Finally gave up going since I didn't want to ruin the truck with all the salt getting on it. Appreciate any help you guys can give me. Time for a cool change! Sandra(Seawitch #617)

Hi Sandra, I had my welding shop build me a trailer tongue extension for LEPPO's Trailrite trailer. It was 8 feet long. The extension has a normal receiver on the end, plus another trailer ball near the other end. They added a "U" shaped steel support on the bottom side of the Trailrite trailer tongue into which the back end of the extension fitted. The extension was then locked in place with the trailer extension ball going into the regular trailer receiver. To use the extension, I blocked the trailer wheels, using chocks that I built, lowered the tongue jack, and then disconnected the trailer. I pulled the car forward. Next I undid my extension fastenings, removed it from the trailer frame, and inserted it into the "U" and the ball in the receiver, locking it in place. Now I could back up and put the tongue extension receiver on the car's ball hitch, fasten the safety chains, retract the trailer jack, and then was ready to launch ( I had raised the mast prior to disconnecting the trailer from the car) Backing up with the extension makes the job easier, with the distance between car and trailer wheels being longer. Think 18 wheelers, and the way they can park their trailers. The only problem you might encounter launching is going from the flat assembly area to the launch ramp itself. If the launch ramp has a sharp angle, with the flat pavement, you may (I have) scraped the bottom of the trailer tongue extension as you go down the ramp, and the tongue extension hits the ridge in the pavement as the trailer wheels go down the ramp. A trailer tongue extension is extra work to rig when launching, but I also prefer to keep the wheels of the car out of the water. Connie

For what it's worth: I heard over the weekend that you can simply toss the transducer down into the bilge, as long as there's a bit of water down there, and it will work fine. Go figure! Depth and Fish Finder installation on M15

I am installing a Piranha 15 combination fish and depth finder in the forward locker forward of the keel slope on my M15. Can anyone recommend a non permanent material to set the transducer in? I want to test it before epoxying it in place. The hull has a slight concave well just forward of the keel slope that I am going to test. Would it better to fill the well with epoxy to make a level spot or just use the attaching material to fill the well and hold the transducer in place? Any insights would be appreciated. Any recommendations on making or buying a trailer extension for a M17 Trail-Rite trailer? Length? Pictures? Also, does anyone have any experience with the following company? http://www.xtend-a-hitchnorthwest.com/ I found a few references and ideas in the archives, but would like to know what others have done. thanks al williams
