The hatch is a two piece, hinged affair. The bottom piece is vertical and about 3" tall on my P-15. The door simply swings down and is held horizontal by a stiff leg to the floor. It's a bit awkward, either used as a door or stored, but all in all a reasonable arrangement for a coastal cruiser. George, I have this setup on my 1993 M-17, got it from Jerry that way so without looking I dont know how it is attached. I like the setup, the 17 has a deep port locker and once I leave the slip I always keep it locked. first rule keep the water out, I just take what I need before departure. The starboard locker is shallow and closed so it doesnt mater if its locked or not, water cant get below. I just store some extra line in it. The other locker is wet any way so it's not an issue. I like the clean look and there is no chance of hurting yourself on a hasp. Gary

The cockpit/companionway door is indeed a standard feature on P-15s and P-19s, and has been for many years. Well, as you can guess, I'm bored this afternoon, so here's a link to another picture if you're interested. This one shows some pretty good cockpit detail, including tiller extension mounting, homemade tiller tamer, rolled up mainsail, roller furler line routing, a glimpse of the nice swim ladder, and unfortunately, only the top half of the underslung style rudder.
