Early last month Rich and Really went on an overnighter to Lake Don Pedro.Wasn't able to arrive at cove to Anchor out until 7pm. While rushing to set up the boom tent I realized that I forgot to put the gas can forward. While carry the filled 2.5 gallon plastic can to tie off at the bow I slid on the jib and the can went overboard. By the time I got the boat hook it was too far to reach. It was a cold and getting dark. I was in shock watching the sealed container bouncing along the little waves out to center of the cove. I dove in and had to swim a good 50 feet to retrieve the can. Scott...if you are able to refuel without spilling it just isn't that rough yet. Where I boat it can get way to bumpy to fill the tank without fuel sloshing out. The tee in-line set up only needs backflow preventer valves installed to make the system work. One valve on the carb side of the tee and one valve on the fill side. To fill, close the carb side and open the supply side...pump fuel in and reverse valves to run.

You're right about removing painted graphics Todd. The previous owner of my boat had the name and home port painted on and it took me a couple of evenings to get it off using a razor blade and Acetone. I actually didn't think about producing vinyl letters using some sort of pc program. Great idea. I'm sure you (or the graphic arts professional of your choice) could create a neat image to go along with the name--a stylized mermaid or something. But....no need to settle for something you don't want. Anyone with some graphics software can make custom fonts and shapes and anything your heart desires which one of these vinyl lettering shops should then be able to print/cut for you. A little coordination between the two (it may even be the same person) will ensure that they can exchange files. A friend of mine did some custom graphics for my business cards which the card printing company opened on their computer for printing... Only drawback to actually painting the name on would be if you or a future owner wanted something changed, a problem that doesn't exist with vinyl lettering. BuscaBrisas' mailbox type lettering was apparently original, dating back to 1983. Her original hailing port of San Diego can be seen ever-so-faintly as a difference in the gelcoat. Now she has a bit fancier lettering, same name. And instead of black, it's blue to match (very closely, fortunately) the boot and sheer stripes. I got some new hatch boards for my M15 and Cetoled the outfacing surfaces and painted the infacing surfaces white. I think I want to coat the boards with West System epoxy to seal them up. Giles, Lacquer thinners come in three basic typesketones and esters, alcohols, and fast evaporating hydrocarbons. The first two are solvents the last group are extenders to dilute or assist in application of lacquer. First two groups are most probably the GOO Eaters. No dumb questions. Hi Rich, Thanks for the confirmation. My latest version is an upgrade from my first test tiller extension. I determined I wanted the forward end higher to make holding it easier. My new version is hollowed out on the bottom side to fit the top surface of the original tiller. It is cut at an angle so the forward end is higher. I installed a pin that fits in the Forespar Tiller Extension fitting in the tiller. The pin does two things for me. It prevents the tiller extension from rotating around the existing tiller, and it provides a fixed length extension so that when I start applying some pressure to the tiller it isn't going slide / rotate / or do other strange things when I least want it to. I hold it in place using a Velcro strap at the aft end. With the tapered tiller extension, I can apply the Velcro around the tiller and the extension and then slide it forward so that it holds the extension tightly, but I am still able to take off the extension in a few seconds if need be.......... Lacquer thinner is a solvent for thinning/applying lacquers and lacquer based paints, and is much, much stronger than paint thinner. It has the advantage of not leaving behind an oily residue, and evaporates quickly. It has the disadvantage of dissolving many plastics, stripping some paints/coatings, and should be tested on a *very* small and invisible area first!! Acetone usually much more Fiberglas and gel-coat friendly than Lacquer thinner. It is comprised of such nasties as Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Toluene, Xylene, and several other non-pronouncables. Old gooey glue stuff

I am now the proud owner of M 15 # 343 and want to thank the group for all your comments regarding my "short list" of boats. My decision was narrowed down to just 2 boats and your insight led me to choosing the M 15. Although I haven't sailed her yet I am extremely pleased with what I know of the boat so far - trailering, contruction quality, looks, etc. So, a big THANKS!!! for your help. I have removed the old registration numbers but a glue residue remains. Does anyone have a suggestion about a cleaning agent or method for removing the gooey stuff?
