I am new to the list so I didn't know that this issue was off limits. I was interested in the m17 because I read some things that said it was a very good boat. I read most of this off the msog.org website. I am sure that many of you are very happy with your boat and the way you have been treated by Mr. Eeg. However, I am surprised at the number of emails I have received from people that were less than happy or unhappy. I haven't written this boat off yet but I am actively looking for a comparable alternative. Sorry to touch on a sensitive subject. cockpit drain thru hull fitting

I had a leak at the bottom end of the cockpit drain on my '76 M17. The metal pipe that goes thru the hull had corroded. I cut it out (6" dia. hole in the bottom) and the metal tube had two small holes just below the clamp from corrosion. (26 years old) Does any one know what is the best type of tube to replace it with, or if a clamping tube is necessary ? Maybe I can just glass the rubber hose directly to the bottom. Some options for the tube are Stainless, Brass, Copper or Marlon fittings from West Marine, or perhaps a section of PVC pipe from Home Depot. My only concern is which materials are most compatabile with fiberglass and will develop a strong bond. Also is it better to re-install it in the new fiberglass as I repair the hole, or would it be better to install it in an adjacent area of uncompromised (original) fiberglass. The hose is long enough that I can route it to a different location. The old tube looked like thin wall aluminum, it was glassed into the bottom with the rubber hose clamped to it. Bob if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate your input, or anyone who has dealt with a similar problem.. Wayne "76 M17 "Intrepid"

Hi Kyle.. If you're looking to buy a new boat, it's prudent to check out the builder, especially if you're putting up a deposit. This applies to any small boat builder, not just NorSea. I read a bit about the cntroversey, but as it didn't affect me, I paid little attention. FWIW, I've talkedto Bob at times about my boat, and he has been helpful. If you're thinking about buying a used boat, as I have, the controversey is just an interesting bit of a man's history and his struggles during a time that many boat builders were foundering or going under. IIRC, Jerry Montgomery stopped building his boats about this time. Perhaps your best bet would be to buy a good, used boat, and not worry about things from the past. I don't know what "Kyle's" true purpose was in posting his negative message. However, Bob will definitely not be negatively effected by losing any potential business he might have brought. This is not a Bob Eeg love list but simply a bunch of satisfied customer's who responded with positive experiences to Kyle's very inappropriate posting. Ocassionally we sail on Monterey Bay (e.g. with friends or charter). We have four small boats at the moment, 2 sail (1940 Vintage Snipe in restoration & now the Montgomery 8) and 2 power (aluminum fisher and I/O Bayliner). All trailerable. I've been on the water since I was a teen (e.g. Sea Explorers w/ 50 ft ex Coast Guard picket ship & whatever). I completed the Coast Guard Aux training years ago. Later I had a fixed keel sailor wet berthed in Moss Landing and enjoyed Monterey Bay, San Francisco Bay & the coastal sailing for many years (before Divorce with Wife #1). In recent years there were too many working hours with clients to justify having a larger boat (7x12 makes it rough to even check on your boat). FYI - The wife, Pam loves to decorate our home with her Sea Shells (her favorite collection hobby) and Nautical stuff throughout (like a model sailboat on the mantle). One might get the 'bends' in our downstairs bathroom. My question is about the daggerboard for the Montgomery 8. The previous owner thought the daggerboard was too long for fishing, so he took a saw to it and lopped of a piece. I'd like to either Buy another 'or' make another one to the original spec length. Bob I am sorry if I offended you. I was just trying to gather information and make an informed decision as to what type of boat to buy when I buy. I have heard many good things about Montgomery Boats. I was surprised to have read the negative information about your company so I thought I would check it out. As I stated in my prior email I had not written your company off based on this information. However, after your response to my last post I can guarantee you have lost a potential customer.
