Hi, As the year is comming closer to it's end, I can't help but miss Jon Abbey. Anybody else share that feeling? That guy always had the most outrageously long "best of" lists!! >The sound quality is not great, but the energy is there! That's very typical of Ruins. Unfortunately, while Yoshida is a master drumemr and composer, he is a pretty crap producer. It's really a shame, and one of the reasons while Ruins are so much better live than on CD. "Burning Stone" has a great, thick rock sound, and also "Tzwomborgha" sounds surprisingly good. Hi, The Brubeck cover is totally different from the normal Ruins material. In fact, I'd say it's one of their most unusual things so far. Anyway, I recommend the following: "Burning Stone" (Very rockish, and more simple than the later stuff" "Pallascthom" or "Tzwonborgha" for their newer stuff. The live one on Tzadik, because you get them in full force And be sure to get the versions released by Yoshida himself (available through his webpage) They have cooler covers, and often excellent bonus material. But nothing beats seeing them live. It's so much better than any recording. Turntablism request

Greetings out there: I was wondering if anyone could send some good reccommendations (and links / websites etc. to more info regarding) for experimental music with turntables. I recently saw the documentary "Scratch" and I was familiar with most of the hip hop oriented turntabilists (Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, Rob Swift, Dj QBert, Mixmaster mike, etc..) but was wondering if anyone could point me to the more experimental side of turntable music. \The only one that I can think of would be like Christian Marclay or maybe evolution control committee or John Oswald (although I think those guys are more samplers than turntablists) I will use any suggestions and include them in my upcoming radio shows for The PCP House of Coffee, an experimental and creative music program. Hi, One of my favourite Ruins CD's is the CD on the Japanese Bloody Butterfly label: Early Works: Live & Unreleased Tracks (ZIKSBB 004) This CD features their first live gig in 1986 and 17 unreleased tracks (with John Zorn playing on 3 of them) The sound quality is not great, but the energy is there! It was released in 1991 and is probably difficult to get, but still... Maarten Hepp
