This is very true - Here's where the confusion comes from: apparently in a 5ESS switch, when you provision a pri, it can be configured as a 5ESS (sometimes called "Custom" or "5ESS Custom" by the telco) and can also be configured as NI2 (sometimes referred to by the telco as "standard"). It's apparently VERY easy for your telco to provision a PRI to what they call "standard" (requiring the NI2 settings), but when you ask them what type of switch it is, they'll say 5ESS, which is in fact the type of switch, but not the type of PRI you have. The behavior Matthew describes is similar to what I've experienced when you have an NI2 PRI and set the DSP for 5ESS. This chassis is connected to 2 UPS-s in case of 1 fails another will work. What will happen if voltage (or amperage or freq.) of one UPS is different from another?

I believe in those old units, the NMC is what determines if V.90 is enabled(?). If so, I know you can purchase old V.90-enabled NMC's for those for not much money. Look on EBay or email me off list if you can't find one. The equipment you purchased has long been discontinued by 3Com. When they originally came out with v.90, you needed to purchase the enable string from them. You probably need to contact 3Com to see if it's still available. At this time, they *should* be giving it away, but they don't normally work that way. Good luck.
