I am exhausted: I just finished reading over 300 Police Mailing List emails since around New Years, mostly re: the Police Reunion. I've been--obviously--putting off reading them, although I knew what they were about; mostly because I dared not believe it, but partly because I knew eventually the hype would die down and I wouldn't get caught up in the emotional roller coaster. But What A Ride!!! I also have been a member for years, lurking constantly in the background, selfishly gleaning information from your willing, often eager emails. My fondest memories from this list include meeting Jeremy, Deb, Bill, Maggie, Ross & Fred; picking Ross up from the airport having never personally met him (against my now EX-husband's wishes); meeting in Irvine then driving to 'Vegas with four friends I hadn't met yet except on the list (J, D, B & M) to see Sting at the MGM without anything but the clothes on my back and a credit card, sharing a room with these wonderful people, counseling a new friend on her complicated but promising relationship, seeing Michael Jordan gamble more $$ in one hand than my ex made in one year; flying to Houston on a 24-hr turnaround for front row seats and staying with J&D; sharing photos and laughs with all of them for weeks after. This list anchored my love for a man and his music that I had harbored without external support from most friends and family, bringing it into the light without shame. I thank you all, especially Jeremy, Deb, Bill, Maggie, Ross & Fred. And I sit here now still reeling from the possibility, no matter how implausible or insane, of my favorite band of all time that I never saw in person--although I am old enough to have seen every concert they ever did but too sheltered (and quite frankly too stupid to make the effort to go!) at the time--getting together once again if only for a brief moment in a world-wide tour... although I too have fantasized about the following, still: I do not care if they suck. I do not care what songs they play. I do not care if every song sounds completely different from what I've been listening to for 30 years. I will be in the presence of a historical moment, of an artistic "big bang", and I will be enthralled, enamored, and enthusiastic with every strum, pick, strike, note, scream. It will be a moment I will never, ever forget. Having said that, I honestly didn't believe it would happen until I read Sting's comments. Now, the impossible has become the improbable. The singer has confirmed that he is in talks with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers about marking the occasion and insists a reunion could be on the cards. He told the Daily Mirror: "We started 30 years ago, so it would be nice to do something to celebrate. We don't quite know what, but we're talking about it. "I'm very proud of the band we were in. I left the band because I felt I wanted to grow as a musician, to mature as a musician and try to do more things than a band is able to do." Sting did not make it clear if he is planning a permanent reformation or whether the band would just reunite for a one-off gig or tour. After forming in 1977, The Police enjoyed five number one singles, including 'Message In A Bottle', 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' and 'Every Breath You Take' before splitting in 1985 so that Sting could go solo. The group last played together in New York in March 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Interestingly, I'm reading this the day after the BBC show Watchdog did an expose on ticket scams. Outwardly legit, but actually dodgy websites often sell tickets they don't have, and sometimes even for shows that aren't happening. All for unreasonable amounts of money, of course. It's a massive problem in the UK because laws which prevent this happening with sporting events (for public order and safety reasons) don't apply to music concerts. I don't know anything about the website linked to earlier so can't comment on whether *it* is dodgy, but this just sounds like someone taking advantage of the wild rumours. Ang
