Alternative battery location on M17?

Asking if anyone has their battery mounted anywhere differently than the port side, just inside the bunk bulkhead on an M17? I was thinking of the possibility of moving it forward and on the centerline. Would need longer battery cables and a new fuse located close to the new location. The recent discussion on cockpit drains etc, got me thinking about shifting some weight forward, as well as away from the port side, since the main anchor is also stored on that side in the port cockpit locker. Since the boat is covered and stored, I will have to wait a few months to look this over. Bill Makin' Time M17 #622

Bottom Paint...now Recommendations?

Janisaz I've been thinking about heading toward British Columbia next summer. Do you have any recomendations about docking facilities and/or sailing areas? I don't know BC very well but the times we've spent there, on land, have been good! Bulkhead Compass

Where is the best location for mounting a compass on a Montgomery 17? Type? We are thinking about a bulk head dual read card compass. At our local lake there is a Seaward Fox that has a compass on the port and starboard bulk head.

Hello, I just signed up to this fine group. The confirmation email encouraged me to say something about myself. I have owned my 2011 M15 for 6 mos or so. I have only sailed it twice! I love the way it sails, but I also love fixing boats up and this is what I have been up to. I enjoy reading what others have done or are doing with their boats. I live in in northern Ca, near Lake Don Pedro. Great sailing here. The number 1 reason I bought the M15 is because it fits in the garage! It stays nice this way:). I have owned many sailboats from a Cyclone 13 to Catalina 25s. I am liking this one:) Years ago I met and sailed with a gentleman, Rich Cotrell I think, that sailed a beautiful M15 named Really. Cutest boat I had ever seen. I asked Rich if I cound sail with him for a while and shoot some pics? He graciously accepted my request. Cockpit Drains

We have a Montgomery 17, 2006, and when our boat is heeling or motoring the cockpit drains back siphon water into the cockpit. Are these one-way valves? And is it normal to back siphon or are these valves defective? Any help or answers would be appreciated!!! Thanks!

Sculling oar

In the November / December issue of WOODEN BOATS, Harry Bryan has a design for a 10 foot long take-apart sculling oar. His oar has a downward bend at the blade that is in the waterto make sculling easier and to add more thrust per stroke. He has an ingenious method of making his oar two-piece and easily stowable. Have a look. It might be just what you need for an M15 or M17. Connie
