I made that video and it seems like others covered most of the details pretty well. My brother, with the Montgomery 17 and who isn't active on the list, goes to Ross Lake fairly often. It is an excellent destination though a fairly long dusty road in. Going in through Canada was fairly straightforward as I remember, though I was headed further north for a few weeks. Was wondering the condition of the ramp etc. Been camping at Diablo Lake which is the next lake down below the dam of Ross and is a gorgeous lake with glacial blue water.

Rudder length

Having just bought a M-15 from 1980, I am wondering if the rudder that I have is the right length and weight. This one is made of teak, solid teak over an inch thick. What is the length of the standard rudder for a M-15 and it will be used for cruising and day sailing, not racing if that makes a difference. I sure appreciate the combined knowledge and experience of this group. I saw it in action today in regards to another issue that came up here. Thanks. Doug M-15, 1980

What is the best way to protect the original mahogany rudder from the salt water? Last year I kept my M17 in the salt water. Every time I finished sailing I would pull the rudder of the boat. Rinse it off with freshwater on the dock. Dry it. Then store it in the cabin of my boat. Andrew M17 #348 Seabeck, WA

When Marty sailed with me I had a great time - I believe the results were more than adequate! I think we beat you by ONE point for the weekend. That is Marty 'Stretch' in the companionway - a tall drink there! Tell Marty to bring kneepads/shin guards with that GPS as he will need them! (He was most enjoyable , knowledgable and motivated - I had a REALLY good time sailing with him!) You......? won't listen to the voice of reason!! {;>) Take Care, have fUn! Yes, what Gail reports is an issue at the public ramp. You can rig near the bottom of the ramp but it is uniformly sloped. Not a lot of fun, especially when crowded, and there is no associated dockage.Nearby Lake Sonoma Resort Area is the better option for sailing craft. It has a small semi-level rigging area and good docks.
