I started with a Bolger MICRO at age 75, and then when mast stepping become too difficult, I went to a derelict ComPac 16 I found in Clearwater, Florida. The ComPac 16 solved the MICRO's mast-stepping problem, but I had married in haste, and got to repented at leisure. I rapidly sold the ComPac 16. That's when I heard of, found, and bought a M15. We became devotes to trailer sailing. With the M15 we now had a great little sailing machine again. The interior was comfortable for the occasional over-niter, but primarily we stayed in B&Bs with good beds and a functioning bathroom, and used the M15 for day sailing to check out interesting areas. A few hours up or down the Interstate and we could be in Maine, on the Chesapeake, in Florida, on Lake Erie. It opens all sorts of wonderful possibilities that you never could reach with a large fixed keel sailboat. We sailed on Lake Champlain, on the Chesapeake; on Moosehead Lake in Maine, and on other smaller lakes. Trailer sailing also "forced" us to drive to Quebec on a windy day and go exploring; or to visit Burlington, VT, Ausable Chasm, or Plattsburg in NY, on poor sailing days. Okay - here we go - Anyone who knows me will NOT follow me to arrive at a destination while sailing. I agree with Scobie - Charts and compass seem to serve me well, remember - TRUST them, GPS is nice for the car (have road map in the glove box with a pair of 'gloves' of course). Stick and stone technology (Dead Reckoning) 'needle and cork' works EVERY time. So I anxiously await - my sailing downgraded from 'carefree' to 'Now What?' - oh hell -just go sailing till I bump something. Have Fun, Sail by DR end of POV from BFA. GO

Hi, We have just become new Montgomery owners having just acquired a 2005 M-15. I've been an admirer for years but luck and conditions have joined together to make us official. We are looking forward to expanded cruising possibilities and hopeful to be sailing in the Sea of Cortez and the San Juan Islands soon. i too have been following this issue for the last year-ish. a good friend, and college roommate, has a PhD in this stuff (some of his designs have been put into orbit). i have been asking him his opinion on the LightSquared situation. here is his point of view (POV) on the latest that has been discussed here on the Mboat listproc - -- begin a PhD's POV -- Well, what has been said is mostly not true. (except "go sailing with no worries") [note: my friend is also a life-long sailor. - dave] GPS jamming is really easy. The signals are "Sub Thermal" meaning that they are really, really , really weak. Spread spectrum does help with interference, and the next generation of satellites *may* be more powerful, but that is not what I heard. I thought Light Squared said that the next generation of *receivers* may be more resistant to interference. So everyone should just replace their equipment so they can use a crappy radio system. Personally, I think the DoD, FAA, and FCC is going to tell LightSquared to go stuff it. On the other hand, I just read some articles and the authors could be confused. This could be a test about if business controls government, in which case we are screwed. -- end PhD POV -- i look forward to reading other's opinions ... i still use paper charts and dead reckoning as my #1 and #2 navigation tools. What a bonus! So, can anyone confirm the “sailed to Hawaii” legend? When was that? What hull? Again, I have yet to hear from another owner here. Still, I seem to be gaining some notoriety for my “roadside redoo.” At least a few know what they drive by. It’s good for business! FYI, this wood-boat builder is looking forward to enjoying a fiberglass boat like never before, on our perfect playground; Kaneohe Bay, Windward Oahu. On that note, thanks for the input on C/B pennant access; I’m still wondering if it can be addressed by a shallow (warm) water dive at full drop? She should be off the trailer in another month or so; until then I’m looking at a short leash with a knot at unknown length. Also, the O/B discussion is invaluable; however, I’m favoring electric on the transom. Any thoughts? Also, great to hear from Canajian lake and Pacific sailors; I’m an Edmonton ex-pat and miss the wilds of C! Except the 40 below part! C or F thermumblter. I’ll be BAAAK!
