Lining the M15 cockpit sole with DriDek works well for me. The water just sloshes under your feet but your shoes stay dry. Depending on your point of sail and the amount of chop, you will find that water comes into the cockpit via the pendant hole. There are various ways to limit this, but you'll never avoid it. Keep in mind, the water also escapes through the pendant hole, so you really don't want to block it 100% anyway. This year, I am installing floor matts in the cockpit, which raises the floor about 1" or less. This should keep my feet a little dryer..........or not.........either way, I'm sailing and isn't that what really counts? Gail and I were knocked down in our M15 ('86 #361 "Justus") at Havasu this year during one of the races. We were both on the lee side, light air, and didn't see the gust coming. Gail managed to release the main sheet but we were already going down. Hanging over the side with one leg in the water, my thought was, "Crap, we're going swimming. Good thing we've got a ladder". As water began coming in over the side, I felt the righting shift and the boat came back on her feet. My first thought was, "Thank you Jerry Montgomery". We had about 7 or 8 inches of the Colorado in the cockpit, which drained in seconds, sheeted in and was back in the race. The M15 is a great design sal In a message dated 2/29/2012 8:12:18 A.M. Hi #176. Carol II (M15, #177) also started her life in Texas (bought new from a dealer near Austin), moved to Kansas/Missouri for a wlhile then back to Texas while I traipsed around overseas for a few years and now resides in Southern VA. She's still as beautiful as the day she came out of the mold (well, almost). Hope #172 brings you as much pleasure. Stan

Buoyancy

I'm still working on my 15ft Monty and noticed that the old styrofoam is breaking up . That's in both the front and back areas , at the back there was just two small blocks about 8x10 inch by 1ft . I'm thinking of either filling the areas with some of the building foam in aerosol cans , or using sailing dinghy buoyancy bags . Anyone done either or have any ideas why one shouldn't do either Thanks in advance for any comments KLaas

At work we use to get auto parts and glass packed in soomething like that stuff and I still have some around if I want to try that idea . This is what I love about this group always good ideas Thanks KLaas

Monty 15 #176 Now at New Home

After a blessed uneventful 800 mile tow, our "new" Montgomery 15 #176 (formerly of TX and most recently NC) is now parked safely at her new MI home. She fit in the spare garage with mast on carrier and all, ..... with room to spare!! Now, the Spring prep and polish work begins. *Jeff+* Molōn labe!

Is the blue subject stripe on my 81 M15 gelcoat or paint? I'm asuming gel as the rear Montgomery 14 insignia is there in white. I'm asking so as to know if I can compound it like I'll compound the white hull. Many thanks. Jeff

Advice needed

Hi shipmates, I'm putting a new traveler track and Harken windward sheeting car on my M-17cockpit floor, and plan to mount turning blocks on the vertical cockpit side at each end of the track. The blocks will mount with #10 bolts. My question is does the cockpit side at that point have a balsa core? If so, I'd have to drill oversize, epoxy, and redrill. If I have to do this, what size holes should I drill for the oversize hole and the redrill? I used to have this data somewhere, but can't find it anymore. (I'm having this problem more and more these days - getting old ain't for wimps). Thanks for any help, Rick M-17 #633 Lynne L
