M 15 boom storage?

My boom fits in the cabin but for quicker ease of getting the boom out I was wondering if anybody designed a attachment system to clamp the boom onto the mast when the mast was in the trailering position. Any ideas. Thanks Smiley magoo252(a)comcast.net

Quick Release Backstay Lever

Seems like almost every M-17 owner leaves the backstay and shrouds attached when trailering. With a CDI furler on my forestay, it would be difficult to pin the stay to the bow fitting, unless the backstay is loosened. Seems to me that a Johnson Quick Release Lever would allow the mast to move forward enough to easily pin the forestay. Then a quick closing of the lever would tension up the backstay. Does anyone out there do such a thing? Is there any danger of over-tensioning the shrouds if they are left attached without loosening? Thanks, Mark House World's Slowest M-17 Rigger

On the road to Anacortes

We just entered Idaho and stopped for boat inspection. We were told that a boat about our size with a green hull had passed there just 10 minutes before. The boat was from AZ to we guess that it is Jim and Cynthia heading to Anacortes too. We probably won't catch up with them because will be stopping in Twin Falls to visit with family. Nice work Robbin. It has been exciting just watching your progress. sal In a message dated 6/5/2011 4:32:32 A.M. It was very nice to be sailing her as opposed to looking at the bottom of her hull! BTW we had a chance to use our new navigation kit yesterday from Weems and Plath. I would highly recommend it for novice navigators like me. I was using an app on my iPhone to get the GPS lat long called GPS Tracker. It worked great but its nautical mode still only have coordinates in degrees with decimal causing us to have to convert to minutes and seconds. Can anyone recommend an app that has a more convenient format? I was considering buying a hand held but would prefer to not spend the money (as there has been a loud sucking sound by my wallet lately as I got the boat ready to spash) and I am not ready to consider a automatic chart plotter/depth finder/ fish locator this season. Larry, I have seen composite wood used for guide boards and bunks but don't think it would be good as a bunk material. The 'wood/plastic' composites are too slippery for bunks and don't have enough compressive strength to support between uprights for the bunks. No need for carpet on the guide boards - composite or 'real' wood - they should not mar the gelcoat. (I oil mine with tung oil for water protection - painted boards will mark up the boat) Practice your rigging/breakdown skills by going sailing often. Just a matter of practice and simple organizational skills. It will get easier and faster with experience. Good luck & enjoy the boat! GO

M15 Interior "spatter" paint composition

Hi everyone! The previous owner of my MMP '83 M15 painted the upper portions of the cabin interior in a nice 1 part easypoxy or similar paint in dark blue (apparently to match the sheer stripe). I was going to prime & paint over it in off white to match the rest of the interior, but noticed that the blue is somewhat flaky and has bubbles -- he obviously didn't sand & prime under it, and the blue is not adhering to the original finish in some places. Question for you guys (maybe Jerry) is: What was the composition of the original spatter finish that was applied, and is there any stripper that could take off the blue, but leave the original finish? I'd hate to paint over this, only to have everything look crappy in a few months. The dreaded "previous owner" syndrome!

Monty 15 owners A Measurement please

I want to extend my 2002 wooden mast crutch so when the mast is in place I can clear the sliding cabin hatch top and slide the mast guides into the mast base. Can anybody give me this measurement from the top of the rear deck or top pindle so I know how much longer to make my wooden mast crutch longer?
