We launched out of Sandy Point State park. First things first we got to the set up area and within 30 minutes we were ready to back the trailer into the water, The mast raising set up is a BREEZE J We were in the water but needed to abort and pull the trailer tongue extension out the maximum distance. This made it much easier and we clocked in a 45 minutes with boat in water and ready to go, not bad for my first time. We now know a few extra tricks to make this faster as we need a rubber mallet for the tongue and GLOVES since the tongue was pretty greasy. Of course I was stopped during the process by an admiring sailor inquiring about Montgomery boats, says something about Monty's but I did not deduct time for this chat as I worked through it all. Once in the water it was time to fire up the engine (Honda 2 hp short shaft) and I am convinced you don't need a long shaft for this boat.really no debating me anymore. Now once we got out of the lagoon we started to rig up my new Hyde sails, Jib is JUST freaking perfect, spot on lengths everything just swell. Main sail went up like a breeze no issues either and all dimensions also spot on. Today the winds were from the south at 5-6 knots according to NOAA weather and I swear we were doing +3 to 4 knots. Forgot my GPS at home but this boat is so sensitive to wind changes you really become a better sailor especially with new Sails that respond very well to slight wind changes. I also sailed today with my new IDA rudder and I can't tell you if it's better that the stock assembly but what I can tell you is the built in mast crutch assembly made rigging for me much faster and simpler. I did love the feel of the helm and we did set up a tiller tamer to give the helm feel a bit more drag or resistance to play. I think this is a very well made assembly and I can't wait to push the boat in heavier winds and see how much the rudder aids in up wind performance. I want to thank you all for your insights and advice as some things said here on this forum helped short cut my learning curve on the boat. Stan Froseth certainly sold me a really nice boat too and he had a lot already set up and all I did was tweak some things more to my liking. All in all my wife and I are really happy with the size and sailing characteristics of this well made and designed boat. A big shout out to Judy for making me some fast and very attractive sails, I did roll the main on the boom as advised here and Judy did supply a Hyde tube where the sail and boom slip in very nicely this will certainly keep the starch in the sails a bit longer. "pre" M9 at Lake Havasu

Hey everyone, I'm driving from San Diego to Texas, and want to drop in at Lake Havasu to sail my M9 dinghy (built by "Arthur Marine") under London Bridge. I should arrive at around 10pm or so. If anyone near Lake Havasu would like to sail the dinghy tomorrow, let me know. Also, if anyone has a place I could park overnight, again, let me know. Please email me directly, not on the list. Question for Bob or Jerry Montgomery I was wanting to know where I could buy one of your boat motor mounts. I have just bought and 1981 Monty15 with one of the fiberglass motor mounts on it. And I bought a 3.5 Mercury new motor and I can turn the motor around to back up it's to close. I was wondering where I could get one of the adjustable motor mounts you put on your new boats? And is there any thing I should know about mounting the new motor mount?

It is time to part with my M-17, and I am sending a note to this list to find out if there is any interest before I list it elsewhere. I have been tinkering away on refurbishing for 2-3 years and it hasn't been in the water, and it is time to let another M-boat fan finish it and go sailing. I recently purchased another boat, and a reality check tells me that I have too many boats (it took a while for that concept to fully take hold). Read on for a description and a link to photos. I am asking $3850. The boat is in southeastern Arkansas. Email me with questions or for more info. _____________________________________________ 1975 Montgomery 17 #69 MMP170690675 Early model Montgomery 17 with galley and one quarterberth. Light yellow topsides, blue bottom paint, white decks. The boat has been undergoing refurbishment, but hasn’t been sailed in the past couple of seasons. The restoration includes improvements from the masthead to the deck. No jib replacement decision yet (hanked or self-furling…?) but the boat could be sailed now. · Hull in good condition overall, and I think it looks great for a 1975 boat. It has no blisters but shows effects of age with some dings, scratches, gelcoat wear, etc.. Scratches and repair on port side from dock or piling contact, and some minor chip and scratch repairs need to be re-done. Bottom paint is at the end of its effective life. · Deck and cockpit gelcoat in very good condition – cleans up well. Teak handrails have been replaced and all other wood parts sanded, varnished and reinstalled. Deck hardware has been re-bedded (except bow pulpit and cleats). Mast base hardware includes halyard lifts, deck organizers, and rope clutches. New Harken traveler installed. · Mast and boom refurbished. All new running rigging. Masthead sheaves renovated and converted to use rope; rigged with internal halyards led to rope clutches on cabintop. Standing rigging inspected by Jerry Montgomery and replaced as needed. New Windex. Boom hardware (gooseneck, reefing parts) replaced. · Cabin has galley area to port with sink. Interior cushions in very good condition (probably original). Teak sanded and varnished. No portapottie · Condition of wiring and electrical parts unknown; battery switch, switch panel, nav lights in place but never used. No battery. · Trailer completely refurbished and road ready: new hubs, bearings, seals, wheels and tires. Bearing Buddies with covers. Re-wired with LED lights and new reflectors. New rollers, bunk carpet, tie-down strap, safety chains, and winch strap. The painted steel trailer does not have brakes and is in excellent (i.e. freshwater) condition. Two steel wheels with older tires for spares. Clear title, 2” ball, 4-wire flat wire connector. Equipment List New Elliott-Pattison mainsail, loose-footed with slugs and two reef points Older main, jib, and genoa. Good condition, adequate for cruising. New laminated tiller with removable extension. Old tiller for spare. Two rudders: original mahogany rudder and older-style Idasailor kick-up rudder Windline 3-step ladder (not installed) Sailor’s Tailor polyester trailing/mooring cover with vents (2 years old) Dock lines, fenders, boat hook, anchor, cushions, spare parts, etc.

Gaps in hatch cover

Does anyone have ways to close the gaps in the hatch cover at the ends of the cover runners. Critters and weather like to get in through these gaps.
