Tom, Dick Newick has just been given a commission by the King of Tonga to design a 50' Trimaran to work as a freighter between the islands. Fuel is expensive and there are many islands. The King is trying to improve the inter island activity and trade. Prevailing winds would keep the boat on a beam reach going north or south. 5,000# payload. Cat Ketch with unstayed rigs. Called "Island Friend". I've also heard talk of adding wings to freighters. Maybe the "new day" of sail is just beginning. Tom, I think it could be done with stock parts. A pump with a one way valve, al couple of tubes and fitted parts with gaskets, all solvent proof. We have the same issue, so we're interested as well. In fact I would guess that someone's already done it. Maybe even commercially available? Hey Tom, Twins are an interesting notion. I remember about 10 years ago a twin outboard powered trimaran went Calif to Hawaii. Diesels as I remember. No mast, designed for power. The thinner hulls of the Trimaran were easily pushed through the water. Then he went on to the the South Pacific. There were a lot of advantages to having twin power-plants. Rigging up a sealed pump system for an external tank would make life easier in rough seas. M17 Orion had its original fixed motor mount replaced with a spring-loaded mount for the Honda 5hp.
