Dan, I enjoyed sailing in your company when we were in the San Juans this last June. Thanks for sharing this. I have other friends that are going through similar times and decision making processes with respect to their careers. Jo and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers that the perfect situation presents itself to you. She and I have been so fortunate so many times in similar situations. Yes, I have the "plastic wood" as bunks on my M-15 trailer. It works well (two layers glued up). When bending be aware that there is a limit and breaking will occur without warning. A little propane heat helps. This Composite Wood is easy to set in screws for carpeting and will never rot. I used finishing washers on mine. Space screws about every 6 to 8 inches. Bunks replacement

Dear all, the bunks for the trailer for my Monty 17 need to be replaced (they are aged and cracked). I have two questions for the knowledgeable people on this list: a) the existing bunks are curved, but the 2x6's I bought at my local lumberyard are (obviously) straight. The curved ones should be slightly longer than that the straight-line distance between the mounting holes on the trailer. Where should I drill the screw holes in the wood? Should I do it as if I were mounting the bunks straight, and then let the weight of the boat sag them to the correct shape (easier to mount, but I don't know if the wood is elastic enough to stretch to the required length). Or should I drill the holes as if the bunks were already curved (slightly farther apart), but then I am not sure how I will mount them without some weight to curve them down (the holes in the bunks will not align with the holes on the trailer). Any suggestions? My trailer has no center supports and I have never had a problem. As for the carpet ,I use 11/2 roofing nails in the sides about every 6 in. lol Eldor

Last call for t-shirts and sweatshirts

Hey guys/gals, We'll be placing the order as soon as Jo and I get back from our little vacation. Sooooo, if you were thinking about picking up a t-shirt, sweatshirt or hat, let me know asap. Nice pics, Andrei. Beautiful lake, hope to sail up there before I get too old to trailer that far. As for the trailer bunks, I have always laid the boards on the pads, drilled up thru the pads, and let the weight of the boat take care of the bow. That has worked on at least 4 boats for me. Hello Gordon and Chad, Well done men! Looks like you had a great adventure. Two sailing trips on Superior this season for you Gordon, good for you. Your motor killing using the external tank may be a small air leak somewhere in the fuel line or connectors. I had a similar problem with my Honda on the M23. The addition of a small "O" ring at the motor fuel inlet end solved the problem. Chad, still have your M17? Gordon's Sapphire is used to sailing with a yellow hulled M17!
